Summary: To provide assistance to the Security Manager and Supervisors in the daily operations of the Museum, and take the place of a Security Supervisor in their absence to supervise a security shift when needed. A security shift may include, but is not limited to, Security Officers, or other persons as directed by the Director of Security. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Prior to a shift hold roll call, give oral and written instructions and assignments to department staff Inspect uniforms and equipment of staff prior to assignment. Conduct coaching sessions with staff and make recommendations for disciplinary actions according to Museum and Department procedures. Assist the Security Supervisor in performance evaluations of staff. Coordinate training of new staff and professional development training for existing staff. Perform duties of a Security Officer when needed. Record all activities occurring using a Daily Activity Report. Plan daily schedules for department personnel. Assist Security Supervisor with payroll. Provide input regarding purchase of necessary equipment and supplies. Inform on-coming Security Supervisor of all shift activities. Oversee protection operations during the shift. Inspect the condition of the buildings for safety and proper function, and report repairs that are needed. Operate Radio and Communications Systems. Fire Systems, Video Management Systems, Access Control Systems, Building Automation Systems and Mass Notification System. Oversee implementation of museum policies. Administer First Aid, CPR and AED. Investigate all fire, safety and security incidents and complete detailed written reports. Special Notes: Employment is contingent on the successful completion of a background check and drug screening in accordance with the Professional Licensing Rules and Procedures of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. After obtaining the proper license, Security officers are considered the first responders of the Museum, and have the power to arrest and detain in incidents occurring on SLAM property. These powers are in effect only while on duty and on the premises that you are paid to protect. Security officers are required to carry aerosol pepper spray while on duty. All officers must be certified to do so by attending an approved pepper spray training course. All security officers carry handcuffs in order to detain as required. Officers will be periodically required to train for the following: Traffic-control, active shooter, general safety. Officers may be posted outside after dark, with or without other officers present. Outside posts are required of all officers, including during inclement weather. This is a physically active position that may require the following: Must be able to stand for up to four hours at a time. Time will vary based on tour of duty as assigned for such shift. Ability to kneel and bend down to assist injured parties. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. Must patrol the building campus. (A tour averages 3 miles.) Adequate strength and agility to detain and/or restrain in the event of emergent situations involving violent, agitated, or aggressively threatening persons. Ability to quickly and safely respond in the event of an emergency (i.e. run or jog).
