About The Position

This position is responsibile for inspecting existing buildings and dwelling units to determne compliance with Section 8 Housing Quality Standards, and fills in as needed with occupancy and eligibility tasks by perfomrng the following duties: Obtains permission from owners and tennents to enter dwellings. Examines visually all areas to determine compliance with ordinance standards for heating, lighting, ventilation, and plumbing installations. Measures dwelling units and rooms to determine compliance with ordinance space requirements. Inspects premises for overall cleaniness, adequate disposal of garbage and rubbish, and for signs of vermin infestation. Prepares forms and letters advising property owners and tenants of possible violations and time allowed for correcting deficiencies. Ensures the HUD Health and Safety Checklist is followed and all deficiencies are promptly reported and addressed. Consults file of violation reports and revisits dwellings at periodic intervals to verify correction of violations by property owners and tenants. Explains requirements of housing standards ordinance to property owners, building contractors and other interested parties. Assists with Occupancy and Eligibility as needed. Supports maintanance staff with clearning and related responsibilities as required. Perfoms all other responsibilities as may be assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and training
  • Computer literate
  • Familiarity with MS Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Must have valid driver's license and be and remain insurable under fleet vehicle insurance
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Tenmast or other industry specific software helpful
  • Certification in HQS (Housing Quality Standards) or INSPIRE (National Standards for th ePhysical Inspection of Real Estate) a plus
