About The Position

As the Lead Seventh Grade Science Teacher, you will build a dynamic, lab-rich classroom that sparks inquiry, critical thinking, and a lasting curiosity about the natural world. You will help redefine public education in Atlanta by guiding scholars through rigorous, standards-aligned study—prioritizing investigation, discourse, and real-world application. You will teach an average class size of 25 scholars, bringing consistency, joy, and a growth mindset to every lesson.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification in Middle Grades Science or related area (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Proven success teaching science at the middle school level with evidence of scholar growth and strong classroom management.
  • Deep command of core life-science concepts and the ability to make them accessible and engaging.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills; commitment to continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging, rigorous instruction aligned to Georgia Standards of Excellence for Grade 7 (life science focus: cells, genetics, ecology, human body systems).
  • Differentiate instruction and interventions so every scholar—accelerated, on-level, and emerging—makes meaningful growth.
  • Plan and facilitate hands-on labs with clear procedures and safety protocols; maintain materials, inventory, and lab compliance.
  • Use data routinely (exit tickets, unit assessments, benchmarks) to reteach, extend, and communicate progress with scholars and families.
  • Collaborate with the science team and grade-level colleagues to align units, labs, common assessments, and accommodations/504 supports.
  • Build a classroom culture that is warm, structured, and identity-affirming—anchored in high expectations, positive narration, and restorative practices.
  • Integrate literacy, writing, and academic discourse into science (note-catchers, CER writing, vocabulary routines).
  • Communicate proactively with families and staff to celebrate wins, problem-solve, and ensure each scholar’s success.
