Summary: The Charge Nurse (RN) provides shift-level leadership and oversight to ensure safe, high-quality nursing care within the program. This role supports staffing coordination, supervises nursing staff during assigned shifts, assists with admissions and discharges, and promotes compliance with clinical, regulatory, and accreditation standards. The Charge Nurse serves as a key point of communication between nursing staff and nursing leadership.

Requirements

  • Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible in the state of practice required
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including organization, prioritization, and time management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of nursing supervision, HIPAA regulations, and state licensing requirements
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification as required by facility

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with CARF or other healthcare accreditation standards, preferred
  • Prior experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or inpatient care settings, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision and guidance to nursing staff during assigned shifts
  • Coordinate staffing needs, assist with call-offs, and support on-call coverage as needed
  • Organize and manage shift operations to ensure continuity of client care
  • Communicate and assist with client admissions, transfers, and discharges
  • Support pre-certifications and related documentation as assigned
  • Participate in ongoing preparation for regulatory and accreditation surveys
  • Assist with orientation and onboarding of new nursing staff
  • Promote a positive and collaborative working relationship among team members
  • Provide instruction, direction, and support to nursing staff in delivering client care
  • Respond to and help resolve client or staff concerns in a timely and professional manner
  • Communicate client care issues and staffing concerns to the Nursing Supervisor or DON
  • Ensure nursing documentation and medication administration practices meet regulatory and organizational standards
  • Support compliance with HIPAA, state licensing regulations, and CARF or other accrediting body standards
  • Must exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality with regard to all company information.
  • Completion of all required trainings as designated by the company and applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
