About The Position

The Lead Retail Sales Associate supports the Retail Manager and staff in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Girl Scouts of Orange County retail shop, including in-store sales, customer service, inventory control, and e-commerce fulfillment. This role ensures a high-quality shopping experience for members/customers, contributes to team training, and plays a role in driving retail sales and operational success. The Retail Supervisor also assists with merchandise management, cross-departmental collaboration, and serves as a secondary team leader. This position helps deliver engaging, mission-aligned customer experience that supports member retention and council goals.

Requirements

  • 3+ retail experience including inventory management and receiving; assistantleadership or key-holder experience required.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in fast-paced or high-volume environments.
  • Demonstrated accurate cash handling and POS proficiency.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to train and guide others. Experience as a trainer preferred.
  • Ability to quickly learn and navigate Girl Scout-specific platforms (e.g., Salesforce,POS).
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across departments and with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work weekdays and weekends as needed to support volunteer needs and events.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to streamlining processes and improving systems.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 30 pounds as needed.
  • Willingness to support and embody the mission, values, and principles of the Girl Scout Movement.
  • Licensed and insured California driver; must pass background screening including driving history.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure high-quality service for both internal and external customers by providing personalized shopping experience.
  • Support the retail team in resolving escalated or complex customer interactions with professionalism and empathy.
  • Assist shoppers with merchandise selection, answer Girl Scout program-related questions, and provide resources to enhance member retention efforts.
  • Promote council-branded merchandise, seasonal collections, and special promotions to drive sales and program engagement.
  • Serve as a resource for troop leaders and members, providing guidance on Girl Scout uniforms, badge requirements, and program materials.
  • Monitor sales trends and support promotional campaigns to help achieve sales goals.
  • Assist in communicating new products, promotions, or retail updates to staff.
  • Utilize Salesforce to verify customer profiles, apply discounts, case management and update member accounts during renewal.
  • Process all transactions in the POS system, including sales, returns, exchanges, interdepartmental transfers, and membership renewals using council credits.
  • Support the Retail Manager in training and coaching team members on POS processes and best practices.
  • Fulfill online (GSM e-commerce), email, and phone orders with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Perform daily reporting, opening and closing procedures, including preparing documentation for the accounting department.
  • Support the Retail Manager in maintaining accurate inventory by receiving, verifying, and stocking merchandise against purchase orders.
  • Assist in training retail staff in inventory procedures and merchandising standards.
  • Perform monthly cycle counts and annual inventory audit to maintain 98%+ inventory accuracy.
  • Assist the Retail Manager with creating purchase orders and preparing relateddocumentation as needed.
  • Ensure the sales floor and stockroom are clean, organized, and visually appealing.
  • Implement creative merchandising techniques that highlight seasonal promotions and drive engagement.
  • Act as the retail leader in the manager's absence, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and team support.
  • Provide coaching, task delegation, and support to Retail Associates.
  • Participating in council meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities
  • Support special projects, shop improvement initiatives, and perform other duties as needed to contribute to the success of the retail team and council.
  • Share performance insights, customer feedback, and operational needs with the Retail Manager.
  • Maintain general file keeping across retail systems by organizing shared drives, updating inventory and POS documentation, preparing accounting supporting files and reports, and ensuring all retail operations files are accurate and accessible.
  • Support retail presence at Council events, pop-up shops, and Girl Scout program activities.
  • Support all staff and GSOC departments with interdepartmental purchases and transfers.
