Primary care and specialty outpatient care are available through the Medical Faculty Associates, a multi-specialty physician practice group of more than 750 physicians covering 51 specialty and subspecialty areas. The Medical Faculty Associates' doctors have offices in the Ambulatory Care Center, an outpatient clinic located one block from the hospital. Lead Respiratory Therapist Allied Health at GW Hospital Respiratory Therapist at GWUH are essential partners with providers, nursing, and support staff in an academic medical center. Most of our resources are deployed to the hospital's six intensive care units, where our respiratory care practitioners (RCPs) are integral critical care team members. Our RCPs seek opportunities to enhance patient care through unit and system-based quality initiatives, evidence-based research and practice, and interdisciplinary care. The George Washington University Hospital Respiratory Care Department provides cutting-edge clinical care to various critically ill patients. Here are some of the highlights of the therapies we deliver: Ventilator management Including the utilization of an ARDS protocol Advanced vent modes (APRV, ASV, NAVA) Inhaled Nitric Oxide Administration Airway Clearance Therapies (utilizing an Airway Clearance Protocol) Airway Management Non-Invasive Ventilation Oxygen Therapy Emergency Response Teams Emergency Department Care Level I Trauma Center Post-Surgical Ventilator Weaning and Care Including open heart surgery, Liver transplant Indirect Calorimetry Bedside PFTs Inpatient Sleep studies Point of Care testing ICU Mobilization Multidisciplinary approach to tracheostomy management and speaking valves The department also engages in diverse education pathways. Clinical rotations for local and international respiratory therapy schools. Annual respiratory education for nursing and physicians. Departmental continuing education lectures

Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved two-year respiratory therapist program
  • 3 Years of Professional Experience that demonstrates Progressive Leadership background
  • Licensed by the District of Columbia Health Regulation
  • Licensed as an RRT and approved by NBRC
  • BLS Basic Life Support for Health Care Professionals required
  • ACLS and PALS within six months of hire
  • Stable and NRP required for NICU Therapist
  • Excellent critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
  • Strong organizational and attention to detail.
