Responsible for providing and performing both basic and advanced therapeutic procedures. The respiratory therapist team leader will help assure the appropriateness, quality, and consistency of all aspects of respiratory care. The team leader will act as the Respiratory Therapy (RT) clinical liaison to physicians, nurses and other health care providers. This position will provide all types of diagnostic and therapeutic Respiratory Therapy procedures, in accordance with hospital and department policies, under the direction of a licensed physician. Principal Accountabilities: Clinical Skills meet all essential functions outlined in Respiratory Care Practitioner Job description (including but not limited to standards of clinical procedures and protocols, invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, airway management, utilizing standard precautions, documentation, and education.) Develops, revises, and implements policies and procedures along with leadership. Develops and implements clinical competencies in conjunction with leadership. Monitors effectiveness of care, employee performance and provides feedback as a resource for performance management. Establishes and maintains effective communication. Establishes collaborative relationships with employees to ensure issues are identified, evaluated, and resolved as a team. Participates in report and patient care rounds. Establishes, implements, and monitors for SBAR practice. Communicates acuity and availability of personnel to leadership. Participates in implementing improvement initiatives based upon Employee Engagement feedback intended to improve employee satisfaction. Collaborates with leadership to organize and staff according to guidelines, patient needs, and staff competency, maintains staff schedules and continually re-assesses services of respiratory care to achieve high quality cost-effective healthcare. Documentation- Monitors and ensures accurate and timely documentation via the electronic medical record of order history, results of therapy and patient charges. Ensures timely documentation of Medication Administration Record and Interdisciplinary Form. Responsible for regular review of all required documentation for completeness. Provides feedback to RCPs including necessary improvement and recognition. Assists with ordering of equipment and supplies, as well as the ordering of medical gases for the facility, when inventory is low. Functions as a preceptor for the orientation of new hires (RT and RSA). Assists with training respiratory students if applicable. Helps keep department in a constant state of readiness in preparation for inspections from DOH, JCAHO, CAP and OSHA. Performance Improvement/Quality data collection and analysis based on department operational needs (including, but not limited to: COPD and PNA readmissions, intubations, etc) . Infection control practices and audits compliance of safety goals and clinical indicators. Acts as a role model for professionalism and demonstrates consistency with employees. Supports leadership decisions and seeks professional growth and goal achievement. Other Tasks Which May be Required: All other related tasks or duties as assigned.
