The Lead Recreation Management Technician at the Avon Park Air Force Range is responsible for overseeing the public hunting and recreation program, ensuring compliance with regulations, and facilitating public outreach. This full-time position involves managing recreation permits, conducting wildlife surveys, and supervising other technicians, all while promoting sustainable resource management in collaboration with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML).

  • Sell and process recreation permits according to standard operating procedures.
  • Check incoming recreation users for compliance with regulations and maintain use records.
  • Ensure that users have proper permits and vehicle passes to use recreational areas.
  • Provide safety briefings and inform applicants of regulations.
  • Supervise another recreation management technician.
  • Maintain accurate recreation reports and sign-in logs.
  • Coordinate with Base Operations and post information on the recreational status on social media.
  • Collect and record biological data from game species and harvested game animals.
  • Conduct wildlife surveys.
  • Electronically enter and process data.
  • Facilitate public meetings and develop outreach presentations.
  • Manage and recruit volunteers.
  • Assist staff and volunteers with cleaning and maintaining facilities and equipment.
  • B.S. degree in parks and recreation management, wildlife management, or closely related field.
  • Experience in wildlife surveys and the collection of biological data from game animals.
  • Experience with interaction with the public in an official capacity.
  • Experience with public outreach and communication, including the use of social media.
  • Experience with general office administrative procedures such as filing, computer data entry, and telephone etiquette.
  • Experience in cash management.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one by the employment start date.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated GIS Experience is preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience is desirable.
  • Practical experience operating and maintaining OHRV (Off-Highway Recreational Vehicle) such as ATVs and UTVs.
  • Strong public speaking experience and skills are preferred.
