About The Position

Under the direction of the Manager/Supervisor/Ops Coordinator, the Lead Radiologic Technologist is responsible for directing day-to-day activities of the department and supervising the technical and support staff. This role involves performing a wide variety of technical procedures with a focus on quality patient care and assisting physicians as needed.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of formal training program in an AMA approved school.
  • Meets the requirements of an appropriate State and/or Federal mandated certification or equivalent.
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association - REQUIRED.

Responsibilities

  • Assures and produces high quality exams.
  • Ensures optimal image quality assurance.
  • Understands and applies appropriate imaging techniques.
  • Positions patients according to department imaging protocols.
  • Labels and identifies studies correctly using legal marker set.
  • Uses imaging equipment proficiently.
  • Uses imaging agents (contrast) according to protocol.
  • Demonstrates initiative in daily operations.
  • Assures daily staffing levels are appropriate for workload and quality patient care needs.
  • Supervises day-to-day activities of Radiology Personnel to ensure efficient staff productivity.
  • Ensures that patient flow within the department is constant and organized.
  • Problem solves to promote positive relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Facilitates referring physicians' requests.
  • Ensures adequate inventory and equipment maintenance in the department.
  • Maintains a professional and positive atmosphere in the department.
  • Ensures adherence to departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Manages human resources including timely completion of staff schedules.
  • Provides input on hiring and promotion decisions, corrective actions, coaching, and counseling.
  • Ensures completion of performance appraisals and competencies.
  • Ensures lunch and break relief is provided to all staff.
  • Communicates pertinent issues to the manager/ops coordinator/supervisor on a timely basis.
  • Supports development of technical/student staff.
  • Acts as a resource to staff and physicians.
  • Provides pre and post procedure education and reassurance to patients and families.
  • Interacts and communicates in a manner that reflects an understanding of the patient's age, culture, state of health, and level of comprehension.
  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Stays current on regulatory requirements and assists inspectors.
  • Ensures all exams are completed properly and all images are accounted for by the end of the shift.
  • Verifies physicians' written orders and assures appropriate clinical indications of ordered exams.
  • Accurately completes exams in IDXrad and ensures proper coding of exams and billing modifiers.
