Job Description: Position Overview: The Lead Radiation Therapist provides accurate radiation therapy treatments and assure the needs of patients are met. Assure that the primary needs of patients are met and that patients are satisfied with their care. Administer accurate and efficient treatments to patients. Assure smooth functioning of the day-to-day operation. Administer medical information in a professional and accurate manner that complies with federal and state regulations. Maintain positive patient relations. Maintain the treatment machines and patients schedule to make the most efficient and effective use of their time.

Requirements

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technology Certified in Therapy (RT, T) or eligible.
  • Competency in operating a Linear Accelerator and treatment console.
  • Competency in operating and performing CT Simulations.
  • Proficient in using electronic medical records.
  • Superior patient / customer service.
  • Communication: interpersonal, listening, and writing.
  • Medication knowledge.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred two to three years of working experience as a registered radiation therapist.

Responsibilities

  • Understanding the proper use of the patient immobilization/repositioning system and fabricating and understanding the proper use of devices for IGRT.
  • Under the supervision of the radiation oncologist and medical physicist, performing initial simulation of the patient and generating the medical imaging data appropriate for the RTP system.
  • Implementing the IGRT treatment plan under the supervision of the radiation oncologist and the medical physicist or of the medical dosimetrist under the direction of the medical physicist.
  • Applying principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patient, self and others.
  • Acquiring periodic verification images for review by the radiation oncologist.
  • Performing periodic evaluation of the stability and ongoing reproducibility of the immobilization/repositioning system and reporting inconsistencies immediately to the radiation oncologist and the medical physicist.
  • Verify physicians intent each day prior to treatment
  • Identify patient appropriately, utilizing at least 2 patient identifiers prior to treatment
  • Deliver radiation treatments using a particle accelerator
  • Maintain records of treatments
  • Provide simulation of treatment
  • Detect and report equipment malfunctions
  • Record charges for each patient as accrued
  • Observe and note clinical progress of patient undergoing treatment
  • Rotate workload duty throughout department for Radiation Therapists
  • Report as requested to the Radiation Oncologist, Chief Medical Physicist, and Dosimetrist
  • Notify Radiation Oncologist of any changes in patient condition
  • Other duties as assigned to support the mission of Compass Cancer Center
  • Scheduling of therapist’s job duties for day
  • Assures there is a scheduled therapist for morning warm up of machine
  • Manages treatment schedule
  • Medical supply ordering
  • Assists with the selection of recruiting new therapists
  • Responsible for coverage for call-ins
