About The Position

We are looking for a Lead R D Technology - Americas to join our Agricultural Solutions division for our BASF | Nunhems vegetable seeds team in Davis, CA (preferred) or Brooks, OR. The Lead R D Technology - Americas is responsible for managing a multidisciplinary team of approximately 15 professionals dedicated to developing, implementing and supporting innovative technologies that support R D and adjacent functions. Team members work in diverse technology fields such as Quantitative Genetics, Computational Biology, Digitalization, Cell Biology and Quality and Nutritional Analysis, ensuring that new capabilities and technologies are developed, delivered and implemented, bringing value to breeding, R D and the broader vegetable seeds organization.

Requirements

  • Hold a Master's degree with 5 years of applicable experience in an R D environment with 3-5 years of people leadership experience or bachelor's with 10 years of applicable experience in people leadership in an R D environment.
  • Experience in breeding, agricultural sciences, biological sciences or a related discipline is a plus.
  • Understand how research and technology generate value within R D and contribute to broader technology strategy.
  • Demonstrate the ability to inspire and motivate others, providing strong leadership and fostering a positive and productive team culture.
  • Think critically and strategically, aligning team efforts with broader organizational goals and contributing to the overall R D Technology strategy.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to travel and work domestically and internationally up to 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Serving on the R D Technology Leadership team, representing the perspective of the Americas in R D Technology in regard to needs, capabilities, resources, and directions.
  • Bringing into view the Americas perspective on R D topics concerning R D Technology.
  • Providing guidance and support to Technical Leaders to develop and oversee the strategic direction for their overall area of responsibility, aligning with the broader organizational goals.
  • Understanding emerging trends and opportunities in the field and leveraging this knowledge to help guide Technical Leaders and the technology research agenda.
  • Establishing and maintaining partnerships with other technology groups, R D partners, the APV community, the broader AP organization, and collaborators/partners to enhance collaborative opportunities.
  • Developing, empowering and supporting team members through coaching, mentoring, and providing opportunities for career development and growth.
