The Lead Public Safety Officer assumes responsibility for overseeing all Public Safety Officers on a designated shift, ensuring that departmental tasks are performed properly and promptly during the assigned shift. This role is accountable to the Public Safety Manager and involves supervising the patrol of buildings and grounds to deter criminal acts and report unsafe conditions as per the department's operations manual. The officer supervises the public safety response to all codes according to hospital policy and assists in controlling disorderly or combative persons in emergencies. The Lead Officer also handles administrative and operational duties concerning staffing, scheduling, disciplinary actions, field officer training, and participates in hiring and terminating personnel for the assigned shift. The officer attends periodic departmental staff and administrative meetings and assumes the role of senior public safety supervisor when the Manager or Director are unavailable. Additional responsibilities include reviewing security incident reports, maintaining departmental logs, ensuring the public safety office and equipment are well-kept, and adhering to morgue admission and discharge processes.
