About The Position

The Lead PSC Utility Worker leads, directs, and works with a crew involved in the maintenance, repair, and construction primarily on the Putah South Canal. They may also be responsible for maintenance and repair of other District facilities such as canals, pipelines, pumping plants, roads, and buildings. The Lead PSC Utility Worker oversees the work activities of a crew and is responsible for a diverse range of tasks, including clearing aquatic areas, repairing fences and access gates, installing, and repairing water distribution systems, coordinating confined space entry, performing various construction tasks such as carpentry, painting, cement work, sandblasting, and pipe installation and repairs. They also operate tools and heavy equipment, assist with backflow assembly repairs, maintain pressure regulating valves, and actively participate in emergency repairs and weekend standby duty rotation. The ideal candidate is a skilled and experienced individual with a strong background in maintenance, repair, and construction, specifically focusing on canal systems. They should possess advanced technical skills, including carpentry, painting, and operating heavy equipment, and have the ability to lead and coordinate a crew effectively. Knowledge of water distribution systems, safety protocols, and the ability to troubleshoot and perform repairs are essential. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, flexible, and capable of handling multiple tasks, including emergency repairs and weekend duty rotation, while maintaining high-quality standards and ensuring the overall efficiency and functionality of canal systems and associated facilities.

Requirements

  • Any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities stated above and the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Two (2) years of current experience in performing skilled work in the maintenance of water conveyance facilities.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid Class B California Driver License with a satisfactory driving record to maintain insurability.
  • Possession of a current Tank Vehicle Endorsement.
  • Possession and maintenance of California State Water Resources Control Boards Distribution Grade 2 certification required upon appointment.

  • Life Insurance – Benefit is equal to 2x annual base salary rounded to the next higher $1,000, up to a maximum of $300,000. Premium is paid by the District.
  • Educational Assistance – District reimburses up to $850 per fiscal year for eligible expenses.
  • Flexible Spending Account - Tax deferred payments for dependent care, health care, and certain benefit premiums.
  • Vacation and Sick Leave – Vacation is accrued bi-weekly at 80 hours per year during the first year. Employees accrue 12 days of sick leave per year, calculated bi-weekly.
  • Holidays – 11 scheduled holidays and 2 floating holidays per calendar year.
