About The Position

Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking a talented Lead Propulsion Controls Engineer (level 4) to join our dynamic Propulsion Systems Engineering team in the Pacific Northwest, specifically in Everett, Renton, or Tukwila, WA. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 9 or more years' related professional engineering work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education, advanced degree, and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional experience in a lead engineering role with responsibility for project planning, completion of deliverables, stakeholder feedback, application of engineering standards and best practices, team coordination, status and reporting, project documentation, and overall adherence to engineering quality assurance and safety standards.
  • Experience working with junior engineers, providing delegation of responsibility, oversight and review of work, training and mentoring on technical or process issues, and facilitation of collaborative team dynamics.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering processes, the development assurance processes described in ARP4754B, and system safety analysis processes described in ARP4761A.
  • Interface experience with the regulatory agencies (FAA, EASA, etc).
  • Knowledge of Part 25 and/or Part 33 regulations and certification processes governing the development and integration of engine control systems on commercial aircraft.
  • Equivalent familiarity with MIL spec requirements for engine controls system development and integration on military aircraft and platforms.
  • Experience with writing, reviewing, and publishing certification documents, general specifications, system ICDs, qualification reports, test plans and reports and related engineering type design control and compliance documents.
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS.
  • Familiarity with logic diagrams (Boolean, SCADE, SIMULINK, etc).
  • In-depth knowledge of engine systems and sensors design.

Responsibilities

  • Requirements development and validation/verification activities between the airframe and the engine control system, interfacing with the engine manufacturer.
  • Supports airplane functional integration activities and interface management between the airframe and the propulsion control system.
  • Leads architectural and configuration concepts and trade studies for system optimization and to meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Defines lab and flight test planning and testing, as well as component qualification and lightning/HIRF/EMI qualification testing.
  • Supports system architecture modelling as well as control system simulation development.
  • Leads the development and approvals of certification plans and deliverables such as a system description document or system safety assessment, including the development of functional hazard assessments, failure modes and effects analysis, and numerical probabilistic analyses such as fault trees or Markov analysis.
  • Leads discussions with the regulatory agencies (FAA, EASA, etc) to resolve significant technical and certification compliance challenges.
  • Leads system checkout and problem resolution for production airplane build and test for delivery to the airline customers, as well as in-service technical support and resolution to field problems.
  • Leads development of concepts for future propulsion systems to meet anticipated requirements.
  • Advise, assist, mentor, and lead a team of engineers on the above responsibilities.
