Lead Project Planner and Scheduler

GE VernovaSchenectady, NY

About The Position

Through relentless innovation and continuous partnership with our customers, we are building the energy technologies of the future and providing the cleaner, more efficient power people depend on today. Join us as a Lead Project Planner and Scheduler; Responsible to develop and maintain integrated project schedules for a large portfolio of projects to support project reporting and on time delivery analysis which complies with our Gas Power New Combine Cycle Customer requirements and adheres to contracts and PMO processes and standards. The primary focus of this role is to master the intersection of Primavera P6 scheduling, Supply Chain integration, and Concurrent Engineering processes. Acting as the bridge between engineering, procurement, and construction teams, ensuring that the schedule accurately reflects the reality of design progression, material lead times, and field execution. Leading baseline development, manage re-baselining efforts, and provide critical path analysis to mitigate delays before they impact contractual dates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, Supply Chain, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in Project Planning & Scheduling within a complex engineering or EPC environment using Primavera P6
  • Power Generation and Heavy Industrial Equipment preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced certifications in Project Management (PMP) or Scheduling (PSP – AACE) are highly desirable.
  • Courage to challenge functional leaders when durations are unrealistic or commitments are at risk, with confidence and analytics to drive action without direct authority.
  • Ability to translate complex schedule data into simple, actionable insights for senior leadership and customers

Responsibilities

  • ITO – OTR Handover & Schedule Initiation
  • ITO Handover: Attend ITO/OTR handover meetings to receive the L1/L2 bid schedule. Validate ITO assumptions, risk registers, and contractual milestone dates.
  • Baseline Feasibility: Assess the feasibility of the ITO schedule against known engineering and supply chain constraints. Identify gaps between the "sold" schedule and the "executable" plan.
  • Kick-off Support: Support CKOM (Contract Kick-Off Meetings) and ensure all open action items related to schedule execution are tracked and closed.
  • Baseline Development & Functional Alignment (The Commitment)
  • P0 Baseline Creation: Develop the Level 2 (L2) and Level 3 (L3) Integrated Project Schedules using Primavera P6, adhering to global planning standards (e.g., GPSPE SCH 008).
  • Supply Chain Detailing: Work closely with Sourcing/Procurement to integrate Supplier Lead Times, manufacturing cycles, and logistics durations. Ensure PO required dates are accurately reflected and synchronized across multi-unit projects.
  • Concurrent Engineering Logic: Partner with Engineering functional leads to model Concurrent Engineering workflows. Ensure design releases are sequenced to support procurement and construction handoffs without conflict.
  • Commitment Meetings: Lead the Commitment Meeting with functional owners (ENG, Sourcing, PM) to resolve disconnects, align on cycles, and secure buy-in for the project baseline (P0).
  • Project Schedule Maintenance & Control
  • Progress Monitoring: Update the project master schedule monthly based on inputs from task owners. Analyze progress curves, float consumption, and "Say/Do" ratios.
  • Critical Path Analysis: Perform deep-dive critical path analysis to identify potential delays. Proactively recommend mitigation strategies to the Project Manager and functional leadership.
  • Constraint Management: Manage scheduling constraints (ALAP/ASAP). Lead re-baselining efforts (e.g., migrating from 00 to P0) ensuring minimal disruption to reporting and preserving commitment dates in shadow fields.
  • Multi-Unit Coordination: Ensure consistency across multi-unit projects. Manage PO required dates to prevent drift between units, utilizing master activities or controlled constraints where necessary.
  • Risk & Opportunity: Maintain the risk register within the schedule. Run "What-If" scenarios to assess the impact of potential risks or opportunities on the critical path.
  • Reporting & Integration
  • Tool Management: Ensure Primavera P6 remains the "Single Source of Truth." Manage integrations with adjacent tools (e.g., Unifier, Pulse, WIPT, Tableau) to ensure data accuracy.
  • Stakeholder Reporting: Prepare and present schedule updates to internal leadership, functional teams, and external customers. Adapt communication style for non-planning experts.
  • Claims Support: Support Extension of Time (EOT) and cost claims by performing delay analysis (forensic or retrospective) to substantiate delays or disruptions.
  • Continuous Improvement & Governance
  • Lessons Learned: Facilitate project close-out reports, documenting lessons learned and feeding improvements back into the Scheduling COE (Center of Excellence).
  • Process Harmonization: Identify disconnects between regional teams or functions and drive solutions to standardize global processes.
