What starts with YOU, moves the world! Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc, a world-class manufacturer of industrial lift trucks, has an outstanding opportunity for an exceptional and talented Lead Product Engineer as part of our Energy Solutions/Systems development team, based in Billerica, MA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from an ABET accredited institution; MSME desirable.
  • 7+ years combined experience in product development, design and/or manufacturing.
  • Experienced in new product development.
  • Experienced in design and manufacture of complex mechanical systems.
  • Understands the nuances of different phases of development and makes decisions accordingly.
  • Experienced with 3D parametric solid modeling (SolidWorks or equivalent).
  • Experienced in engineering analysis methods including paper studies, system modeling, Finite Element Analysis, and Computational Fluid Dynamics.
  • Experience with design for the following manufacturing processes in both prototype and production: machining, molding, forming (sheet metal), casting and welding.
  • Experience in designing to meet industry standards (e.g. automotive, aerospace, industrial).
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to take initiative and responsibility.
  • Ability to contribute at strategic, tactical and detailed levels of the product development process.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for manufacturing processes such as machining, molding, forming (sheet metal), casting, brazing and welding.
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFA/DFM) techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technology and product development projects for fuel cell stack components and assemblies.
  • Develop new products and prototypes.
  • Conduct development research and investigations.
  • Seek out and create new technology.
  • Provide important technical input in major decision-making processes.
  • Apply engineering knowledge, skills and judgment to balance competing requirements of quality, cost and delivery in developing innovative technology and product solutions.
  • Perform engineering analyses to verify function, reliability, life, code compliance, manufacturability and cost including, but not limited to, structural (static, vibration, etc.), fluid, thermal, chemical, material and electrical.
  • Solve complex engineering problems involving mechanics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and material science.
  • Create full dimensioning and tolerancing schemes for complex assemblies, ensuring fits and function while minimizing manufacturing costs.
  • Collaborate with other development teams to create integrated fuel cell products and solutions.
  • Plan, coordinate and schedule detailed phases of the technical work in major development programs.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, supply chain, customer care and outside suppliers to ensure product designs and documentation are complete, accurate and up to date.
  • Use sound judgment to voice concerns and make suggestions.
  • Demonstrate effective use of multiple communication techniques to all levels.
  • Effectively prioritize tasks to satisfy customer needs.
