About The Position

Founded in 2016, Verkada has expanded rapidly with 15 offices and 2,200+ full-time employees. The Why: Verkada’s product suite is expanding rapidly. We need a Lead Designer to own the "source of truth" for our digital language. You will bridge the gap between our UX designers and our frontend engineering teams, ensuring that our hardware-software interface remains cohesive, accessible, and polished.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in Product Design, with 4+ years dedicated specifically to Design Systems
  • Expert-level Figma proficiency (Auto-layout, Variables, Prototyping).
  • Deep understanding of frontend development technologies and accessibility (WCAG) standards.
  • Experience coordinating between Figma and Storybook or similar tool
  • A portfolio demonstrating polished visual design and a systemic way of thinking.
  • Technical/UX writing: excellent sensibility in naming things (e.g. components) in a system context
  • Ability to speak expertly about every layer: interaction, visual, motion, writing, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Icon design: You can create and maintain an icon library
  • Motion design: You can create custom animations (Lotties, etc.) that add clarity and delight
  • Illustration: You can create bespoke assets that give a brand personality.

Responsibilities

  • Architecture: Define and maintain the core Figma component library, tokens, and documentation.
  • Scale: Create scalable systems that work across responsive web, mobile, and specialized hardware interfaces/touch devices.
  • Governance: Establish the process for how new components are proposed, vetted, and integrated by the broader UX team.
  • Advocacy: Act as a bridge between Design and Engineering to ensure pixel-perfect implementation and technical feasibility.
  • Product Design: Build, test interactive components and prototypes. Pinch hit as needed on cross-product experiences.
