About The Position

This role is responsible for ensuring that product specifications are consistently achieved on inbound and outbound product. Must have a strong attention to detail with a complete understanding of product inspection procedures for fresh produce and floral commodities. Also, this associate is expected to support the banana ripening process and daily warehouse quality control inspection as well as facilitate the inbound and outbound document processes associated with each.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (Required) or GED.
  • College degree preferred or combination of relevant experience and education.
  • Two years of produce industry experience or product inspection in a fresh environment (warehouse preferred).
  • Knowledge of PACA guidelines and HACCP compliance standards preferred.
  • Willingness to earn USDA certification.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks as well as coordinate and organize activities effectively in complex situations.
  • Strong math and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relationships with team and departmental leadership.
  • Working Knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
  • Knowledge of fresh produce transportation, retail produce handling and merchandising and postharvest handling of fresh produce.
  • Previous technical experience related to banana ripening and/or fresh warehouse operations with banana ripening activities a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform product inspections using tools, sensory analysis, and knowledge of USDA inspection techniques to accurately report information regarding grade and condition of product.
  • Audit inbound product to ensure suppliers adhere to company product quality specifications and food safety requirements; reject product that does not meet standards and complete documentation accurately.
  • Monitor warehouse activities in receiving, storage and shipping of product and take corrective action when needed.
  • Complete warehouse audits which verify product freshness, threshold dating, and product specifications.
  • Work with buyers to support strategic plans and ensure proper product volume requirements.
  • Monitor feedback from customers pertaining to product quality and address product issues when they arise.
  • Possess knowledge of and apply USDA standards, PACA guidelines HACCP compliance standards when required.
  • Monitor warehouse product aging reports and use inspection tools to obtain detailed product information.
  • Lead the banana ripening process.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
