About the position

The Lead Teacher in the Preschool Program is responsible for the development and implementation of lesson plans in the daily program for the children within an assigned age group. They follow the daily program for children within an assigned age group acting as the lead in the classroom and modeling and guiding appropriate child care practices within the center.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure there are planned, positive opportunities for adult/child interactions through reading stories, art/music, fine/gross motor skill, play and meal service
  • Plan, supervise and implement curriculum for assigned age group that is developmentally appropriate and encourages each child's growth in the area of social, emotional, physical and intellectual development
  • Help children learn to think creatively, to solve problems independently, and to respect themselves and others
  • Present a favorable image of the school to children, parents, visitors and staff each day by meeting and greeting everyone with a warm, friendly and caring tone and by responding to parent concerns and needs in a helpful and supportive way
  • Implement the screening of students, and contacts, meet with and refer parents to appropriate agencies for further service
  • Make necessary accommodations to help determine interventions in the classroom as needed
  • Ensure students are supervised at all times and feel safe and secure
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for attendance
  • Document and maintain records for student assessment for each child and ensure that program performance standards are met
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding staff, children and families
  • Plan for and support child's daily transition from preschool to childcare and/or plan and support the transition from preschool to kindergarten
  • Work and supervise children during center summer program
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Center Director

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • College course work in early education to meet or exceed the Michigan Department of Child Care Licensing's Lead teacher requirements
  • Minimum of one year of experience in early childhood setting, preferred
  • Experience as an Early Childhood Teacher, preferred
  • Strong organization, communication, problem solving and computer skills needed
  • Ability to work well with children and adults
  • Must be 19 years or older
  • Maintain a genuine interest in helping children in their educational process and developmental process
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed for family involvement activities, including parent conferences, open house, family nights

Nice-to-haves

  • ECE degree preferred
  • Experience as an Early Childhood Teacher, preferred
