About The Position

Noah’s Ark Summer Camp is about discovery, exploration, and friendships. We provide children with incredible experiences both indoors and outdoors, including swim, sports, music and movement, nature and gardening, farm to table cooking, art experiences, Jewish values, weekly Shabbat sing-a-longs and so much more! Our camp counselors work collaboratively to take advantage of all that summer has to offer, leaving campers with a memorable summer experience. As a Lead Camp Counselor, you are responsible for providing a safe and stimulating environment which allows children to develop a sense of independence and encourages mutual respect. You will develop daily activities and experiences that promote discovery, increase children’s awareness and problem-solving skills, inspires them to delve deeper in their learning and explorations and express their creativity. As a Lead Counselor, you are primarily responsible for communicating information to parents and the director regularly. You would develop and implement a high-quality camp program for the children which reflects the vision and values of the Noah’s Ark and the JCC as a whole.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a child related field from an accredited college or university or the ability to meet Maryland requirements for employment in a preschool setting with mandated coursework completed (90 Hours Certification)
  • Minimum of 2 years experience working with children
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to relate to young children and adults
  • Ability to actively engage with children in a developmentally appropriate manner
  • Working knowledge of the growth and development of young children and ability to utilize this information
  • Ability to act independently in the classroom setting
  • Ability and willingness to work with a team
  • Possesses Certifications and coursework required by Licensing, or willingness to complete (CPR, Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention, Developmental Screening, ADA, Breastfeeding for Infant Toddler staff, Basic Health and Safety, COVID Course)
  • Ability to multitask and maintain proper ratios/supervision at all times
  • Ability to recognize safety hazards and protect children from harm

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement daily activities according to developmentally appropriate practices and school values
  • Nurture physical, spiritual, emotional, social, and intellectual growth and development of each child
  • Provide care, protection, and guidance to the children
  • Maintain a cheerful, nurturing, healthy, safe, and clean environment
  • Maintain attendance, milk, injury, developmental records
  • Maintain storage, organization, and cleanliness of equipment and materials
  • Communicate regularly with Director, including all concerns regarding campers
  • Participate in regular staff meetings
  • Communicate regularly with parents
  • Post daily on our parent portal, Brightwheel
  • Protect the rights and privacy of children and families by maintaining strict confidentiality according to the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct
