About The Position

Conducts the data collection phase of the Sleep Study and as needed scores the completed study. The technologist will follow approved policies and protocols in order to prepare a study and or score in preparation for reading. This person will be held to the highest level of customer service representation and will be an active participant of our continuous quality improvement process.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three years of related experience. Requires working knowledge of specialized practices, equipment, and procedures.
  • Healthcare Provider (CPR)
  • Registered Polysomnographic Tech
  • Must have ability to lead employees and delegate work assignments.
  • Supervises and directs employees in the sleep center department as assigned and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Supervisory ability to train and evaluate staff.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately evaluates self and meets pre-established professional goals
  • Knowledgeable of department policies and procedures and standards of care/practice
  • Participates in performance improvement activities by helping to identify, monitor and achieve improvement goals established by the department.
  • Performs sleep studies per policy and protocol and within the guidelines of regulatory agencies. Demonstrates capability of utilizing equipment and software. This also includes appropriate documentation of study and maintenance of sufficient supplies for doing work.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, physicians, and other employees. Through the established systems and protocols used to evaluate staff for excellent customer service employee will achieve the set goals.
  • Acts as preceptor/mentor for students and new employees
  • Attends monthly staff meetings.
  • Communicates effectively and therapeutically in health care setting
  • Confers with management to identify, plan, and develop methods and procedures to obtain greater efficiency, which includes the coordination of sleep center functions.
  • Demonstrate adherence to AASM scoring parameters for OCST. identify artifact, inadequate signals and study failures and generate an accurate report
  • Demonstrate adherence to cleaning and disinfection procedures for portable monitoring devices
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform portable monitoring equipment preparation and data download
  • Demonstrates behaviors necessary for age-specific care and knowledge of decision making process for all ages of the population(s) served. Demonstrates ability to communicate appropriately with various ages. Demonstrates ability to adapt technique/treatment to age of the patient served. As appropriate involves family/significant other in the treatment process.
  • Demonstrates the ability to set priorities to complete daily assignments
  • Ensures that employees report to work on time, and completes daily shift duties.
  • Evaluate sleep study related equipment and inventory
  • Formulates recommendations for personnel and operational policies to management.
  • Maintain current CPR or BLS certification
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of department and equipment
  • Oversees procedures to assure effective utilization of staff.
  • Participates in continuing education as mandated per policy.
  • Participates in multi disciplinary patient care conferences.
  • Perform patient education and instruction appropriate for out of center sleep testing
  • Provide patient education utilizing sleep center specific protocols
  • Responsible for maintaining all professional registrations and certifications
  • Responsible for training, evaluating, and initiating disciplinary action for all employees supervised.
  • Score sleep wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines. Score clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) utilizing AASM standards
  • Supervises and coordinates the activities of the sleep center staff, recommending measures to improve performance and increase efficiency.
  • Supervises sleep center technologists.
  • Typically, checks and approves all reports for interpretation prior to sending them to be read.
