About The Position

The Lead Phlebotomist at Lutheran Hospital is responsible for overseeing phlebotomy staff and ensuring the accurate collection, processing, and distribution of laboratory specimens. This role includes training new staff, conducting monthly phlebotomy courses, and serving as a technical resource across shifts. The Lead Phlebotomist also monitors performance and quality metrics to maintain high standards in specimen collection processes.

Requirements

• Minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• One to three years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
• Prior processing and/or leadership experience is a plus.
• Working knowledge of normal growth, development, and related behaviors appropriate to various patient ages and diagnoses.
• Excellent organizational skills to maintain efficient operations and documentation.
• Knowledge of laboratory testing, medical terminology, data entry, and reporting procedures.
• Understanding of laboratory policies and procedures regarding specimen collection, processing, testing, and reporting.
• Ability to operate and maintain related laboratory equipment.

• Experience in a leadership role within a phlebotomy or laboratory setting.

Responsibilities

• Support phlebotomy staff in identification, collection, logging, processing, and distribution of laboratory specimens and results.
• Assist the Phlebotomy Supervisor with initial orientation and ongoing training of associates.
• Audit accuracy and quality in specimen collection processes and phlebotomy skills.
• Teach monthly phlebotomy courses to nurses and other hospital staff.
• Monitor performance and quality metrics related to phlebotomy activities.
• Serve as a technical resource and point of contact for phlebotomy activities across shifts.
