Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Pharmacy Informatics the Lead Pharmacy Automation Technician is responsible for maintaining an adequate inventory or all drugs in a cost effective manner. The Lead Pharmacy Automation Technician manages the process of inventory and automation quality assurance by appropriate auditing, variance investigation and proactive correction of deficiencies. The Lead Pharmacy Automation Technician also acts as a liaison with internal and external entities to ensure adequate inventory control and accountability for supplies, pricing and optimal medication distribution. Manages the processing involved in the pharmacy supply chain including procurement identification, documentation, invoice coding, reporting, product intake, billing, auditing, returns and credits for all entities. Leads the systematic handling of recalls or outdated medication processing, documentation and replacement. Leads quality assurance inventory processes for general inventory and ensures appropriate inventory and documentation of all products on a daily, weekly and monthly basis through analysis and evaluation of system par levels. Coordinates automation maintenance, troubleshooting, and downtime. Serves as first line for troubleshooting and coordinates involvement of vendor technical support. Configures automation stock items for optimal inventory state. Participates in recalls or outdated medication processing, documentation and replacement. Leads product flow within the pharmacy and transfers medications to and from all Health System entities. Oversees dispensing machine interface data at all sites providing education for users, interacting with vendors and optimizing parameters for optimal use. Formulates and maintains policies and procedures related to inventory management and pharmacy automation. Trains and evaluates all pharmacy personnel in the appropriate and efficient use of central pharmacy automation technology with respect to restocking, dispensing and quality assurance. Reports policy and procedure violations to management as it relates to the automation process, inventory discrepancies and quality assurance concerns. Recommends corrective action for the problem. Obtains stat medications from suppliers as needed. Searches for alternate sources of supply as needed. Accurately and appropriately maintains documentation pertaining to, inventory purchasing and returns, and automation quality assurance. Accurately carries out fiduciary responsibilities related to automation in the central pharmacy and efficiently conducts variance investigation. Demonstrates effective methods and initiative to reduce costs and improve automation configuration and workflow. Complies with all federal and state legal requirements related to inventory management and pharmacy automation. Performs all tasks related to pharmacy automation operations Monitors access and appropriate use of automation software and hardware. Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety. Other duties as assigned
