Provides leadership, support, and guidance to the inpatient clinical nutrition staff. Manages the nutrition care of patients throughout the lifecycle, ensuring that optimal nutrition is provided to patients based on medical, cultural, and age-specific needs.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree from an accredited college or university with completion of an accredited/approved Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics didactic program in dietetics.
  • Successful completion of a post-baccalaureate certificate program in dietetics/dietetic internship.
  • A minimum of three (3) years practical experience in clinical dietetics.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (Commission on Dietetic Registration).
  • Dietitian-Nutritionist Certification (CT State Department of Public Health).
  • Working knowledge of evidence-based principles of medical nutrition therapy.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to gather, review, and synthesize complex medical information.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of Master's degree preferred.
  • Clinical practice in an acute care facility preferred.
  • Teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee milk room daily operations, ensuring compliance with policies and standards.
  • Conduct regular audits of milk room processes and lead monthly meetings.
  • Maintain staffing levels and ensure timely attendance of milk room staff.
  • Distribute competency assessments and maintain documentation for milk room staff.
  • Assist in training new hires and collaborate with interdisciplinary staff.
  • Serve as point of contact for research studies involving the milk room.
  • Maintain calibration and maintenance records of all equipment in the milk room.
  • Ensure temperature logs are maintained and follow through on work orders.
  • Participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives related to quality, safety, and patient satisfaction.
  • Demonstrate effective organizational skills to ensure timely delivery of medical nutrition therapy.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation conforming to HIPAA standards.
  • Review and revise section policies and procedures annually.
  • Monitor patient food quality and conduct tray assessments.
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain and advance knowledge base.
  • Supervise day-to-day performance of dietetic interns and assist with their mentoring.
  • Conduct quality assurance and regulatory audits as assigned.
  • Lead Pediatric Dietitian staff and coordinate clinical nutrition patient care.
  • Manage employee relations and promote YNHHS standards of professional behavior.
  • Provide age and culturally appropriate medical nutrition therapy to patients.
  • Participate in patient care rounds, task forces, and committees as assigned.
