General Summary The Lead Paramedic is responsible for overseeing, coordinating the clinical and non-clinical activities, disciplining and correcting the performance of EMT and EMT-P’s in order to maintain and provide quality customer service and patient care.

Requirements

  • High School education or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of Missouri State approved EMT-P course required.
  • Current Missouri licensure as EMT-P required.
  • American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, PHTLS, and PALS certification required.
  • (ACLS, PHTLS, and PALS must obtain within six months of hire.)
  • Considerable mental concentration required.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs., turning activities and nearly constant walking required.
  • Standing, walking, sitting, lifting (50 lbs), turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, reaching.
  • Driving for extended periods of time.
  • Dealing with traumatic and stressful situations.
  • Frequent exposure to infectious disease and hostile persons at times.
  • Frequent exposure to communicable disease via blood and other body fluids.
  • Minimal physical discomfort.
  • One year of Paramedic experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of Paramedic experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and insures daily department duties are completed in a timely manner.
  • Continuously monitors crew performance and identify problems that need to be corrected.
  • Evaluate employee’s performance using performance management system within designated timeframes.
  • Demonstrates organizational, decision making and delegation skills.
  • Acts independently and makes appropriate department decision when the Director of Ambulance Services is unavailable.
  • Responsible for arranging all transfers out of Phelps Health in a timely manner.
  • Documents appropriately and accurately on (MARF) Missouri Ambulance Report Form.
  • Uses critical thinking skills when assessing patient’s needs and planning care.
  • Delegate’s patient care tasks to EMT’s and First Responders within their scope of duties and evaluates their performance.
  • Proficient in skills such as Cardiac Monitoring with 4 lead and 12 lead, Arrhythmia Interpretation, Transcutaneous Pacing, Defibrillation, Capnography, Endotracheal, Intubation, King Airway Insertion, LMA, Needle Decompression, C-PAP, VAD, IV, Intraosseous Insertion, Defibrillation, Drug Calculations, Medication administration and RSI.
  • Coordinates patient care by effective collaboration with other healthcare team members and emergency service providers.
  • Hands off care of the patient to the receiving facility by giving pertinent and concise reports to the receiving nurse.
  • Efficiently assess Trauma Scenes and activate the Trauma Team appropriately
  • Follows infection control procedures and utilizes safe patient handling and movement techniques and ensures that other team members do so.
