About The Position

Build your career at US Aggregates! The Lead - Overburden Removal is responsible for overseeing all stripping and excavation activities related to removing soil, rock, and other materials that overlay mineable limestone reserves. This position provides daily leadership to equipment operators, ensuring that overburden is removed safely, efficiently, and according to the mine plan. The Lead coordinates personnel, equipment, and production priorities while maintaining strict compliance with MSHA regulations and company safety standards. This role plays a critical part in pit development, operational planning, and supporting overall site production goals.

Requirements

  • High School or Equivalent
  • 5+ years industry related experience, preferably in the aggregate field
  • 5+ years overburden removal operations
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental rules and regulations (MSHA)
  • Knowledge and awareness of site hazards.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Requires use of computer equipment and technology
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds and to stand, sit and walk for long periods of time
  • Position requires ability to work at multiple sites depending on business needs, flexibility to work long hours, and travel as needed

Responsibilities

  • Plan and oversee daily overburden stripping activities, ensuring work follows mine maps, bench designs, and production targets
  • Lead and direct equipment operators (excavators, dozers, haul trucks, loaders, and scrapers) to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Monitor pit geometry, including bench heights, slopes, drainage, and road conditions, ensuring stability and compliance with engineering and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate equipment assignments, manage cycle times, and adjust work plans to maximize production efficiency and minimize delays
  • Conduct routine inspections of work areas to ensure proper berms, traffic control, road conditions, and visibility standards are maintained
  • Ensure compliance with MSHA, company, and site‑specific safety procedures, promoting a strong safety culture within the stripping team
  • Identify and address hazards, equipment issues, and unsafe conditions, and ensure timely reporting
  • Support training, coaching, and performance development of equipment operators to improve skill levels and operational consistency
  • Collaborate with mine planners, engineers, and operations leadership on scheduling, sequencing, and future pit development
  • Complete required documentation, including safety reports, equipment logs, production data, and daily shift reports.
  • Ability to travel to other sites in the area as needed
  • Ability to fill in as needed in a variety of plant positions
