About The Position

Assist in taking on the Lead Optician of the Optical Department at NorthShore Health Centers along with the regular duties of an Optician. These essential functions are a summary of the primary duties and responsibilities of the position, and are not intended to be a comprehensive listing of all duties and responsibilities. The position will include other duties as assigned and duties are subject to change at management's discretion.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies

Nice To Haves

  • Six months to one-year related experience and/or training.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates prescription in conjunction with client’s vocations and avocational visual requirements.
  • Determines client’s current lens prescription, when necessary, using lensometer or lens analyzer and client’s eyeglasses
  • Recommends specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit the client’s needs.
  • Maintain frame and trial contact lens inventory.
  • Assists client in selecting frames according to style and color, coordinates frames with facial and eye measurements and optical prescription.
  • Measures client’s bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, optical centers and seg height as needed.
  • Prepares work orders and instructions for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses to the lab.
  • Verifies finished lenses are ground to correct specifications from the lab.
  • Instructs client’s in adapting to and wearing and caring for their eyeglasses.
  • Computes amount of Sales and Collects necessary payment for out of pocket expenses.
  • Prepares work as needed under the direction of the Director of Optometry.
  • Helps monitor and verify all Optical Lab and vendor invoices for accuracy.
  • Cross-train staff on Pre-testing for the Doctor and Optician sales tasks.
  • Provides Insertion and Removal training for contact lens patients as needed
  • Helps in setting up referrals to outside Ophthalmologists offices for continuing care as needed.
  • Verify insurance coverage for optical sales.
  • Monitor the Orders Received but Not Dispensed Report on a monthly basis.
  • Helps to complete semi-annual inventories at each Optical location.
  • Cross-train to assist with department front office coverage as needed
