About The Position

The Lead Optician supervises optical services at Brockton Neighborhood Health Center working with the Director of the Eye Services. The Lead Optician oversees all aspects of this service with approval of the Director where required.

Requirements

  • Optician Licensed in Massachusetts.
  • At least 5 years of experience as an optician is preferred.

  • CPR/BLS certified

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with MA insurance billing is helpful.
  • Proficiency in any of the following languages is preferable: Cape Verdean Creole, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, French, and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and operate the optical services at BNHC, including eyeglass fitting, selling, dispensing and adjusting.
  • Maintain accurate frame, lens & optical supplies inventory and financial records.
  • Take a formal inventory at least twice per year.
  • Collect and maintain accurate patient financial, insurance and demographic information related to the provision of optical goods, using Epic and Flexsys software systems.
  • Collaborate with the health center's billing and fiscal offices to assure the flow of information needed for third party billing for eyeglasses.
  • Manage all Optical services personnel in collaboration with the Director of Eye Services, including performance evaluations, orientation, disciplinary action and hiring.
  • Provides direction to staff to ensure policies and procedures are followed.
  • Keeps optical staff informed of health center issues and events.
  • Act as a Mentor to staff Optician Apprentice(s) in collaboration with Director of Eye Services and Staff Optometrists, coordinating MA State required activities and oversee on the job apprentice training.
