The position involves managing the optical requirements of the program and evaluating technical risks. The candidate will be responsible for the conceptual development and detailed analysis of various optical systems, including telescopes, beam directors, relay optics, and optical test benches. The role supports cross-site programs that may include refractive and reflective optical sensors from near UV to IR. The candidate will also manage optical procurement of components and subassemblies, execute the assembly, integration, and test (AI&T) of optical hardware, and generate formalized optical engineering content for design and technical reviews throughout the program life cycle. Additionally, the candidate will provide insights into physical optics, optical aberration theory, and optical system performance criteria, and will be responsible for understanding properties and applications of various optical materials. The role requires troubleshooting and resolving optical design and hardware performance issues, recommending and implementing design and process improvements, and supporting optical technology development.
