About The Position

The Lead Ophthalmic Technician Coordinator works under general supervision to ensure complete patient communication and coordination between direct care physicians, referring physicians, designated family members, and clinical subspecialties within the Department of Ophthalmology. This role involves analyzing, evaluating, and coordinating a subspecialty clinical practice, including patient scheduling, physician schedules, and communication with referring physicians.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • 2 years experience in an ophthalmic or optometric practice.
  • 1 year in a lead position as an ophthalmic tech.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or higher upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes, evaluates and coordinates a subspecialty clinical practice in the Department of Ophthalmology.
  • Develops, cultivates, and maintains working relationships with community referring physicians and UT Southwestern faculty.
  • Establishes goals and objectives for optimum services to patients and designated family members.
  • Designs and executes an effective system of internal controls to ensure efficient clinic patient flow.
  • Ensures patient flow within the clinical areas is efficient and effective.
  • Assists faculty in answering technical medical questions from patients.
  • Adheres to established protocols when communicating the need for an office visit to patients.
  • Disseminates effective and timely educational materials to patients.
  • Assists Ophthalmological subspecialty faculty in completion of medical and insurance paperwork.
  • Handles patient concerns and obtains effective resolution.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
