About The Position

The Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Lead will engage, direct, and support activities that drive the ongoing development of the ABS HSQE safety program. This role creates reports and performs analyses on a wide variety of health and safety data, initiates or coordinates research activities in support of selected projects, and monitors ABS health and safety trends and performance for the assigned operating unit (Field Offices/Site Offices) as directed.

Requirements

  • Relevant college degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an applicable discipline preferred.
  • Considerable demonstrated analytical skills.
  • Strong computer skills, with a focus on datasheet and database creation and analysis, as well as word processing and presentation development applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, concerning technical issues to both non-technical and expert audiences.
  • Ability to learn and apply the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental (HSQE) Management System.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to organize and schedule work over both near-term and long-term horizons to meet deadlines and objectives.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or international equivalent preferred.
  • Appropriate OSHA or equivalent recognized safety certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Policy, Procedures, and Tools: Lead or support the development, review, and enhancement of ABS safety policies, procedures, and standardized assessment/report formats (e.g., facility safety assessments and Surveyor attendance safety reports).
  • Facility Risk Assessment and Monitoring: Conduct initial and ongoing safety risk assessments of shipyards, manufacturers, and other major facilities visited by ABS Surveyors, using risk ratings, prioritizing by visit frequency, and evaluating adherence to applicable safety requirements.
  • Surveyor Safety Conduct and Training: Observe and report on ABS Surveyor safety conduct as a continuous improvement tool; deliver safety training and conduct safety standdown meetings in coordination with Regional Operations leadership.
  • Reporting, Trends, and Executive Engagement: Prepare and present general and facility-specific results, trends, and key indicators to facility management and ABS leadership, including regular (e.g., biannual) reports on major industry safety trends and specific facility concerns.
  • External Liaison, Investigations, and Ad Hoc Support: Liaise with government and safety authorities (e.g., Korea/KOSHA); support accident investigations and related follow-up activities, as required.
  • Subject Matter Expert: Serve as the local internal subject matter expert for the Health and Safety Incident Management (HSI) system, supporting the local ABS employee user base.
  • Communication: Develop communication materials to promote OHS throughout the organization.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Regional Head of HSQE.
