The Lead Nursing Assistant’s primary function is to provide training and leadership to other Nursing Assistants and Medication Aides. This position will perform duties such as bathe, dress, move residents and administer medications as directed or needed.

  • Provide direct resident care as assigned, to assist with daily living activities, and perform nursing care as noted below:
  • Take mail to resident.
  • Take meal tray to resident.
  • Conduct security checks and provide first aide assistance.
  • Answer call lights within designated timeframe.
  • Help resident get to and from places such as his/her apartment to dining room, activity room, beauty shop, etc.
  • Give baths or showers to residents.
  • Complete oral hygiene and toileting.
  • Assist with dressing the resident.
  • Pamper resident if asked (i.e. converse with resident, play cards, take a walk).
  • Conduct resident rounds daily and complete charting on residents.
  • Check on sick residents periodically.
  • Provide assistance in catered/assisted living dining room.
  • Responsible for the safety of residents under his/her supervision.
  • Participate in facility continuing education programs as required.
  • Follow facility procedures for admission, discharge, and transfer of residents.
  • Listen to resident, family, or physician concerns and initiate corrective action and/or report concerns to DON.
  • Operate hydration cart and provide to residents as scheduled or requested.
  • Must be able to work any shift as directed by the DON.
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Operate computers programmed with software needed to record, store, and analyze resident information; operate copy/fax/printer machines to send documents and produce documents.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the DON
  • Set-up medication regimen for the resident who requires assistance.
  • Order specified medications for residents.
  • Conduct blood sugar checks.
  • Administer medication to residents.
  • “Lead” specific duties:
  • Mentor/New Staff Training Mentor new CNA/L1MA/CMT staff; provide support and increase the staff’s caseload as their progress and experience allows; be an active member of the mentor team.
  • Serve as liaison between DON, Management and Nurse Aides; demonstrate interdepartmental teamwork.
  • Demonstrate competencies in delegated nursing tasks at least annually.
  • Administrative Functions Attend continuing education trainings and workshops as directed.
  • Maintain gogod communication with DON, other CNAs/L1MAs/CMTs, other Nurses, and management staff Track medications & prescriptions that will need refilled; document staff & date of call to refill Monitor and order medications as needed by residents to ensure prescriptions are provided as prescribed, not expired and are maintained and secured as required by State regulations.

  • Prior experience in a similar working environment is preferred, but not a requirement of the position.
  • This position requires a certificate as a Nurse Aide, Level 1 Medication Aide or Medical Technician in the State of Missouri and to be listed as a Nurse Aide, Level 1 Medication Aide or Medical Technician in the State of Missouri Registry.

  • Ability to understand, observe, and enforce infection control proce­dures related to facility services.
  • Ability to observe all facility safety policies and procedures; take accountability for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations within the unit assigned and within his/her span of control.
  • Ability to understand and recognize potential physical, chemical, and electrical hazards and take immediate corrective action as appropriate.
  • Ability to understand and enforce the Exposure Control Plan as this position risks occupational exposure to blood borne patho­gens and other infectious material as an essential function of the job.
  • Ability to safeguard the privacy of Residents’ health information.
  • Ability to speak and read English, and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, residents, and staff.
  • Ability to use computers; the ability to use the designated facility computer system (or systems) at a proficient level.
  • Ability to perform other related duties as directed by administration.
  • Must attend staff meetings, in-service classes, and committee meetings as assigned or required.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, stretch, crawl, crouch, kneel, balance, finger, grasp, push, pull, reach, or walk.
  • Ability to lift people/objects from a lower to higher posi­tion or moving people/objects along a horizontal level but from position to position. This includes lifting and carrying weights in the 35 to 50 pound range.
  • Ability to exert force upon an object in order to draw, drag or tug objects toward the source of the force in a sustained motion.
