About The Position

The Lead Nurse supports the medical safety, health, and wellbeing of campers at Roundup River Ranch when camp is in session and during on-site programming. This is a leadership role that supports medical operations as well as helps manage and support the seasonal summer staff nurses. This is a seasonal opportunity for a uniquely qualified and experienced pediatric nurse. This position requires a highly motivated and inclusive team player who finds working with children with serious medical conditions to be rewarding. In collaboration with the Nursing Director (ND), Nursing Manager, and Medical Director this position provides direct nursing care to campers and supports other staff/volunteer nurses similar to a charge nurse in a hospital setting. This position supports the training of staff nurses and medical volunteers, as well as providing training and education in basic medical protocols for non-medical staff and volunteers involved in the direct care and support of campers. This position will report to the Nursing Director and will also work closely with the Nursing Manager. Seasonal Dates: May 6th - August 7th including leadership and staff training as well as designated camp days on/off per camp schedule. Weekly rate: $2,035.71 per week Contract length: 14 weeks Total contract compensation: $28,500 (not including bonus!) Eligible for bonus of up to $3,500!

Requirements

  • Clinical proficiency with medical procedures, equipment, protocols used at camp
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral).
  • Strong organizational and administrative abilities
  • Basic computer skills required
  • Be able to identify emergency situations, either by seeing them happen, hearing cries for help, or hearing the emergency alert protocol.
  • Have the strength, endurance, and physical skills to respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations, according to written emergency procedures and plans.
  • Be able to demonstrate or participate in camp activities as they supervise and instruct campers: this will require the ability to walk, sit, climb, kneel, crouch, stoop, and stand.
  • Be able to move items or people. This will require the strength and mobility to push, pull, lift, and carry.
  • Bachelor's or Associate’s of Science, Nursing
  • Pediatric nursing experience required, camp experience preferred
  • State of Colorado Registered Nursing License (or licensure in a compact state)
  • Current CPR/AED/BLS and PALS or ENPC certification

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Medical Team, Summer Staff Nurses, Medical Volunteers, and Camp Program Staff to ensure that campers are provided with the highest quality of medical and basic care needs.
  • Provide coverage in the Depot and serve as a ‘float’ to assist cabin nurses/volunteers as needed in their cabins. This includes but is not limited to Medical Coverage at high-risk program areas as well as covering for nurses during breaks. Provide direct medical care and support as needed based on a cabin’s medical acuity and need.
  • Respond to Medical Emergencies and provide leadership in collaboration with ND and volunteer providers and nurses.
  • Responsible for running Medical Check-In at the Denver Bus every Arrival Day. This will be supported by Camp Staff and volunteer nurses as well as RRR staff.
  • Be a part of and collaborate with the Seasonal Leadership Team to support the day-to-day camp operations including Behavioral Health Lead(s), Cabin Life Lead(s) and Program Lead(s).
  • Work with the provider and nursing volunteers to provide routine and emergent clinical care to campers on-site (including distribution of meds, medical procedures, lab studies)
  • Provide overnight on-call coverage and 24-hour backup coverage as assigned by the ND.
  • Provide updates and communicate with campers’ referring physicians, medical providers, and parents/guardians when requested or needed.
  • Responsible for daily Code Cart checks, refrigerator checks and Narcotic counts.
  • Responsible for helping track missed medication deliveries with ND and Nursing Manager.
  • Provide administrative support to the ND and Nursing Manager as needed. This may include helping create Session Medical Schedule and Nursing Assignments, preparing Medical Check-In forms, and creating Camper Medical Alert List.
  • Coordinate, organize and monitor Summer Staff Nurses in making phone calls to camper families before each session. This will include updating medications/medical needs, medical information, and verifying pre-camp application information with parents/guardians.
  • Perform 1:1 Volunteer Mid-Week Check-Ins and Seasonal Staff Medical Team Check-Ins as directed from ND.
  • Assist Medical Team with summer staff training, including teaching of camper specific diagnoses, emergency procedures, medical equipment and other training as needed. Also provide this training to non-medical and medical volunteers during orientation for camp sessions.
  • Follow camp standards of confidentiality for all camper and staff medical records.
  • Work with Camp Program and Cabin Life Staff to ensure medically safe programming
  • Assist with planning and participating in staff and volunteer orientations
