Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist

About The Position

Serves as the technical lead for the Nuclear Medicine modality, supporting the Department Manager in advancing patient care, regulatory compliance, financial stewardship, and a positive employee culture. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine procedures while providing day-to-day technical leadership and subject matter expertise. Assists with ensuring compliance with Joint Commission standards, state and federal regulations, and ARRT requirements. Supports staffing activities and materials management within the modality. Produces high-quality diagnostic images to support accurate clinical decision-making, explains procedures and preparation to patients, and collaborates closely with radiologists, physicians, and the interdisciplinary care team to optimize patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Must be graduate of an approved school of Nuclear Medicine Technology (NMTCB).
  • Three or more years of experience as a staff nuclear medicine technologist.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Certification or re-certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within three months of hire.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a valid current Nuclear Medicine license/certificate. This will be either an RT(N) registration through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or CNMT certification through the Society of Nuclear Medicine Technical Section Board examination.
  • Must maintain registry status in compliance with the CE requirements of their certifying organization for the imaging modality in which they perform services.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as technical subject matter expert for Nuclear Medicine
  • Assists the Department Manager in ensuring compliance with hospital policies, Joint Commission standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Supports regulatory readiness, quality assurance activities, audits, and documentation for the modality.
  • Provides day‑to-day technical guidance and support to Nuclear Medicine staff, including training, onboarding, and competency support as assigned.
  • Assists with staffing coordination, workflow optimization, and prioritization to meet patient care and operational needs.
  • Supports supply coordination and inventory control
  • Performs diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine procedures in accordance with established protocols and safety standards.
  • Operates Nuclear Medicine equipment in a safe, effective, and compliant manner.
  • Assists radiologists with invasive procedures as required.
  • Administers prescribed radiopharmaceuticals and performs all required data collection, image processing, and computer interactions.
  • Evaluates images for technical quality prior to submission for physician interpretation.
  • Observes patients during procedures and promptly reports any unusual occurrences or adverse reactions to appropriate personnel.
  • Explains procedures, preparation, and instructions to patients to promote understanding and comfort.
  • Communicates exam results, as directed by the radiologist, to physicians, nurses, and other members of the care team.
  • Performs required quality control procedures on gamma cameras, dose calibrators, uptake probes, and well counters; documents results according to policy.
  • Maintains accurate logs related to radiopharmaceutical receipt, storage, administration, disposal, wipe testing, and shipments in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and radiation-safe work environment, ensuring equipment and workspaces remain free from contamination.
  • Adheres to departmental policies related to quality assurance, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
  • May be required to perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) based on departmental needs.
