About The Position

COMPA Industries is searching for qualified candidates for an Lead Nuclear Accountability Specialist position supporting DOE/NNSA operations in Aiken, SC. Impact As a Lead Nuclear Accountability Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity, compliance, and effectiveness of nuclear material accounting systems that support national security missions. Your expertise will directly influence regulatory compliance, system performance, and the successful deployment of nuclear material accountability solutions across DOE/NNSA facilities.

Requirements

  • Candidates must have significant experience supporting Nuclear Material Control & Accountability (NMC&A) programs at a DOE/NNSA site, including hands-on use of LANMAS (Local Area Nuclear Material Accounting Software).
  • Applicants without direct DOE/NNSA nuclear material accounting experience, LANMAS expertise, or familiarity with Savannah River Site (SRS) practices will not be considered.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or business field (Accounting preferred) OR 8+ years of NMC&A experience in lieu of degree
  • 12+ years of accounting or nuclear inventory experience OR Advanced degree (MBA/MS) with 2+ years of experience
  • Strong knowledge of: Nuclear material accounting principles (accounting, chemistry, physics), DOE nuclear material accounting systems and reporting requirements, Nuclear material measurement techniques
  • Strong computer proficiency for data analysis, reporting, and complex problem solving
  • Extensive experience with Nuclear Material Control & Accountability (NMC&A) at DOE/NNSA sites
  • Hands-on experience with LANMAS and day-to-day nuclear material accounting
  • Familiarity with Savannah River Site (SRS) nuclear material accounting practices
  • Experience supporting compliance programs, audits, performance testing, and system effectiveness
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” Clearance (active clearance preferred)
  • US Citizenship Required

Responsibilities

  • Lead the NMC&A Program Topical Area, including system effectiveness, material control, and site-wide program oversight
  • Develop and manage the Site NMC&A System Effectiveness Plan and Annual Effectiveness Report
  • Oversee Manual 14Q procedures, including reviews, revisions, and approvals
  • Lead self-assessments, anomaly tracking, and corrective action programs (STAR)
  • Develop Lines of Inquiry (LOIs) and approve NMC&A Self-Assessment Cards
  • Plan and execute Performance Testing (PT) and Enterprise Assessments (EA/LNPT)
  • Serve as NMC&A Training SME:
  • Develop, maintain, and deliver SRNS and NTC training programs
  • Support operational and mission activities:
  • Perform Management Field Observations (MFOs)
  • Assist with budget projections and program planning
  • Support Classification Office and Security Risk Assessments (SRA)
  • Interface with IAEA and DOE/NNSA stakeholders
  • Provide leadership and oversight:
  • Approve purchase requisitions
  • Act as backup Shipping & Receiving Coordinator
  • Provide recommendations on team performance and development
  • Lead development and communication of functional requirements for nuclear material accounting software
  • Support integration with enterprise data management systems in nuclear environments
  • Lead testing, evaluation, and deployment of accounting software solutions
  • Serve as SME for LANMAS and NMC&A processes at SRS and across DOE/NNSA sites
  • Support enterprise-level implementation and continuous improvement initiatives
