Lead Network Engineer – Design & Engineering Current Need McKesson is seeking a Lead Network Engineer to join the Network Design and Engineering team. This role serves as a technical authority and hands on leader , responsible for designing, validating , and delivering enterprise network solutions that are secure, scalable, and operationally resilient. The Lead Network Engineer partners closely with engineering peers, operations, security, cloud teams, and delivery partners to ensure network solutions are well architected , thoroughly tested, documented, and production ready . This role is critical to sustaining the Network Design and Engineering team’s reputation as a trusted advisor to McKesson business units and technology partners.

Requirements

  • Typically 10+ years of experience in network engineering, infrastructure, or technical network service
  • Advanced experience architecting, implementing, and troubleshooting complex enterprise networks
  • Proven technical leadership on large scale network initiatives in enterprise environments
  • Deep expertise in LAN, WAN, routing, switching, wireless, firewalls, and VPN technologies
  • Strong experience with detailed network design, validation, and documentation
  • Hands on experience applying automation and scripting within software defined networks
  • Familiarity with public cloud networking constructs (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experience working with vendor delivered and partner supported network solutions
  • Solid understanding of delivery lifecycles, change management, and operational readiness
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with automation, software development, or virtualization technologies

Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical lead for the design and delivery of enterprise network infrastructure initiatives
  • Design, test, and document complex network solutions aligned to business, security, and operational requirements
  • Lead implementation of network changes, upgrades, and expansions , ensuring stability and minimal operational impact
  • Provide deep technical oversight during delivery, validating designs, configurations, and deployment approaches
  • Identify technical risks and design gaps early, and drive engineering led mitigation strategies
  • Architect and deliver solutions leveraging software defined ( SDx ) principles and modern network architectures
  • Work across technologies including Aruba (CX) , Cisco (Viptela, Meraki) , InfoBlox , and Palo Alto
  • Serve as a last tier escalation engineer , providing as after hours support for critical incidents
  • Analyze complex and diverse environments, developing repeatable, standardized solutions
  • Mentor and guide engineers, raising technical depth, design rigor, and operational readiness across the team
  • Collaborate closely with security, cloud, infrastructure, and operations teams to ensure holistic and secure designs
  • Participate in technical reviews, design forums, and stakeholder discussions, clearly articulating risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations
