About The Position

Under the direction of management and/or a provider (Physician or APP), the Lead Multi-specialty Nurse is responsible for delivering, directing, and/or supervising high-quality patient care, clinical triage, and Multi-specialty clinic (GI, Urology, Endocrinology, and Rheumatology) procedures for patients across ambulatory and remote settings. As a clinical leader within the Multi-specialty practice, this role provides Gastroenterology procedure management, supports clinical operations, and mentors new team members to ensure consistent, patient-centered care. The Lead Multi-specialty Nurse also serves as the lead for testing, providing expertise in overseeing testing workflows and serving as a backup resource when primary staff are unavailable or when volume demands. This position requires a self-directed, proactive, and highly organized individual who demonstrates strong clinical judgment while motivating others, fostering teamwork, and leading with a positive, solutions-focused attitude. Requirements

  • Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a medical office or ambulatory care settingpreferred.
  • Excellent communication, clinical judgment, and multitasking skills.
  • Comfort with EMR systems and general office technology.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, exceptional customer service skills, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to float between locations as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with GI procedures strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with all HIPPA regulations.
  • Completes mandatory annual trainings and adheres to attendance polices.
  • Reports incidents and emergencies appropriately and promptly.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and safety programs.
  • Clinical duties include: patient care, telephone triage, patient education, obtaining and recording patient health information including vitals and injections.
  • Communicate normal and abnormal lab results with patients and communicate clinical plan and significance
  • Completes tasks associated with clinical inbox/ practice buckets (personal, practice referral, medical record and others assigned) proficiently and in a timely manner
  • Queues orders and prescriptions as directed and according to practice procedure.
  • Prepare forms and educational materials as directed by Provider to be communicated to and/or mailed to patients.
  • Provide mentoring to other clinical staff (such as Medical Assistants).
  • Rooming patients and begin basic documentation for medical provider: Performs Phlebotomy services and administers vaccines.
  • Performs basic office laboratory procedures such as PT/INR’s.
  • Coordinates patient flow and prepares patient for examination. Takes and records vital signs and EKG’s. Documents intake assessment. Assists physician and others in clinical procedures as required or directed.
  • Obtains necessary prior- authorizations for ordered medications, procedures and diagnostic studies as required or directed.
  • Maintains records, reports, logs and other statistical information as required or directed.
  • Processes Medical Records incoming and outgoing according to practice guidelines and regulations.
  • Maintains assigned office and/or clinical supplies. Assures accurate inventory of supplies based on approved levels. Rotates stock as required. Initiates requisitions for re-supply or special items.
  • Performs a variety of clerical functions to support office such as answering telephone, scheduling in office appointments, taking messages accurately and routing appropriately, and related duties as required or directed.
  • Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Attends variety of meetings, conferences, training and seminars as required or directed.
  • Demonstrates use of quality improvement in daily operations.
  • Respects diverse views and approaches, and contributes in maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
  • Provide coverage when needed at other locations within Heywood Medical Group.
  • Process prescription refill requests in accordance with GI provider protocols and guidelines.
  • Complete and submit medication PAs accurately and efficiently to prevent delays in treatment
  • Responsible for patient triage, assessing clinical concerns and ensuring timely, appropriate responses to support high-quality patient-care for GI patients.
  • Review incoming referrals to ensure clinical appropriateness and timely scheduling.
  • Review infusion authorizations and assist with setup with the Specialty Pharmacy.
  • Responsible for developing training and assessment of clinical competencies.
  • Collaborate with Practice Manager to ensure scheduling and staffing demands shift to ensure proper coverage.
  • Conduct medication injection training to clinical staff and assist with med injections for GI patients.
  • Provide clinical support and training for capsule endoscopy procedures.
  • Contribute to patient satisfaction initiatives and ensure high-quality customer service in all interactions.
  • Support additional clinical duties and coverage at multiple locations as assigned.
  • Conduct catheter changes, voiding trials, wound packing and drain management training to clinical staff and assist as needed.
  • Train and assist with administering posterior tibial nerve stimulation therapy in accordance with established procedures.
  • Process prescription refill requests in accordance with Uro provider protocols and guidelines.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for nursing and clinical support staff.
  • Develop training and assessment of competencies, and onboarding new clinical team members in GI & Uro workflows and procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with the GI & Uro care team and allied health providers within and outside the department.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and promote adherence to departmental standards.
  • Provide clinical support and training for posterior tibial nerve stimulation
  • Prepare patients and explain the procedure, risks, and post-test care.
  • Assist manager in monitoring GI schedules for all GI providers ensuring they are at full capacity.
