The Lead MRI Technologist provides work direction to ensure that daily responsibilities of staff technologists are properly delegated. This role involves performing diagnostic radiographic imaging procedures through the operation of specialized equipment, facilitating staff schedules, workflow adjustments, mentoring other MRI technologists, and training new hires.

Requirements

  • Completion of a program accepted by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required.
  • One year experience as a staff radiologic technologist or in a special imaging modality preferred.
  • Two years minimum of experience as MRI Technologist is preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of MRI techniques, procedures, and quality control (QC) testing is required.
  • Required to be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT).
  • MRI certification at the time of hire is required.
  • Licensure through the ND Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Board (NDMIRT) is required if working in North Dakota (ND).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six weeks of employment and re-certification as necessary is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes the role of the leader in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Performs diagnostic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exams.
  • Exercises professional judgment in the performance of procedures and MRI safety considerations.
  • Provides a quality patient care experience.
  • Initiates life support measures as necessary.
  • Interacts effectively with patients, family members, physicians, and other health care workers.
  • Positions the patient and provides for comfort during the exam.
  • Administers contrast material as required.
  • Obtains patient history and clinical indication for MRI study.
  • Accurately documents in patient records.
  • Utilizes electronic medical record software for accurate scheduling and billing procedures.
  • Obtains information from patients or their responsible parties to improve personalized treatment and care.
  • Develops an understanding of the patient's physical and emotional status.
  • Possesses extensive knowledge of cross-section anatomy.
  • Works well with patients of all ages.
