About the position

The position is responsible for coordinating and providing technical supervision of a laboratory section. The individual will assist in coordinating laboratory services while maintaining a customer-driven focus throughout the hospitalization process. The role involves performing clinical testing on various body fluids, ensuring high standards of care, and researching new testing procedures. The individual will also be accountable for quality control, maintenance of laboratory equipment, and staff training.

Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical testing on blood, urine, and other body fluids following departmental procedures.
  • Accountable for the delivery of high standard of care and recommends new testing procedures.
  • Design, write procedures, validate, and train staff in new testing procedures.
  • Perform and document calibration and quality control procedures as outlined in departmental manuals.
  • Review monthly quality control testing and take appropriate action when needed.
  • Organize department workload to assure accurate and timely laboratory services.
  • Assist in orientation and training of all licensed and non-licensed staff.
  • Provide direction for technical questions and situations.
  • Assist the Director in the operation of the laboratory areas and manage operations in the Director's absence.
  • Assess the need for improvement of services and involve staff in quality studies.
  • Effectively manage conflict and proactively address concerns and problems.
  • Maintain professional skills through self-development and continuing education.
  • Assure adequate supplies and reagents in the work area and maintain neat records.
  • Participate in the development and compliance with standards for the area of responsibility.
  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills to communicate with healthcare team members.

Requirements

  • Four year college degree.
  • At least 5 years of experience preferred.
  • Clinical experience specific to the areas of supervision with successful completion of orientation and training to meet CLIA 88 Technical Supervisor requirements.
