About The Position

The Lead Laboratory Technologist oversees department specific duties such as policy/procedure creation and renewal, analyzer maintenance and service needs, ordering of consumables, record retention and review, quality numbers and reports, staff training and competency, and all other duties as requested by leadership.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or other related clinical science field from an accredited institution or equivalent acceptable education as defined by CLIA.
  • ASCP, ASCPi, AMT, AAB or NCA (formerly HEW)
  • Minimum of 1-year previous hospital laboratory experience

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • 2 years of Laboratory experience.
  • 2 years of previous leadership experience.

Responsibilities

  • Follows laboratory policy and procedure for specimen handling, test analyses, reporting, and record retention of patient test results.
  • Performs laboratory testing in compliance with all Laboratory policy and procedures.
  • Maintains regulatory knowledge and awareness of specific job duties.
  • Adheres to quality control policies and ensure calibrations and maintenance are performed and in acceptable standings.
  • Accurately troubleshoots and demonstrates good problem-solving skills.
  • Performs proficiency testing in compliance with CAP regulations.
  • Completes continuing education, professional development, and hospital required annual competencies in a timely manner.
  • Assists in lab specific orientation for new employees including training and check offs.
  • Assists in continuous process improvement and staff competencies.
  • Ensures pending list and patient orders are worked in a timely manner.
  • Prioritizes workload between stat orders, QC, calibrations, maintenance, and all other duties.
  • Reviews, writes, and renews policies and procedures specific to the Blood Bank area.
  • Assists in self-inspections, CAP inspections, and hospital agency inspections.
