Job Summary and Qualifications The Lead Technologist is responsible for providing patient testing and associated work on neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric inpatients as well as outpatients. They also ensure adequate supplies, proper training and orientation of new personnel/students. They perform phlebotomy/blood collections, organize, and coordinate employees in their charge. They review QC and maintenance and ensure corrective action is taken and documented for out-of-tolerance values. The Lead technologist is responsible for evaluation of employees according to their job description, ensures testing is done in a timely manner, ensures accrediting agencies guidelines for assigned area are followed, enforces safety and infection control policies, coordinates QA and Process Improvement activities in assigned area, and provides meaningful input into budget preparation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in a Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science (MT/CLS) from an accredited institution.
  • MT (ASCP) or equivalent required.
  • Two years of experience in a lab setting required.

Responsibilities

  • Is able to critically review results and assures that critical values are reported to appropriate personnel.
  • Is able to insure testing is done in a timely manner
  • Is able to review QC/maintenance and assure corrective action is performed, appropriate, and documented.
  • Documents routine instrument maintenance.
  • Troubleshoots laboratory equipment assuring minimum downtime.
  • Gives input into employees job performance according to Job Descriptions.
  • Ensures that all CAP/AABB guidelines are met for assigned area (i.e. procedures written, QC reviewed, etc.)
  • Responsible for the implementation of test/procedures in assigned area.
  • Completes test authorizations (see page 8 for details).
  • Participates in the Medicare Laboratory Billing Compliance plan.
  • Alert to Errors in own work.
  • Uses ID badge consistently to document KRONOS time.
  • Completes all laboratory assigned continuing education timely.
  • Occurrence / discipline report frequency.
  • Completes annual self-evaluation timely.
  • Consistently completes maintenance worksheet entry.
