Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology from a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited program with American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) registry or registry eligible required. OR Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) or Department of Health, Education and Welfare (HEW) Certificate required. OR Military training (14-24 month program) required. OR Bachelor's degree in Clinical Lab Science from a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) accredited program with American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) registry or registry eligible required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years Medical Technology and/or lab experience required.
  • If HHS or HEW certified, must provide proof of certification.
  • If Military training program completed, must provide proof of training.
  • If Bachelor’s degree from NAACLS accredited program, must provide copy of degree.
  • Knowledge of medications and treatments used in patient care required.
  • Skilled in critical thinking for determining alternative solutions or solving problems required.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for positive interaction with staff and customers required.
  • Skilled in operating a computer, including a computer mouse and keyboard, required.
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and documents quality control activities to control activities to ensure accuracy of test results by following guidelines set by instrument manufacturers and CLIA. Controls are run daily 100% of the time. Controls are documented daily 98% of the time.
  • Performs phlebotomy to obtain specimens by following standardized procedures. No more than 4 patient complaints in a 12 month period. 98% of specimens are in proper container with less tan 95% of problems of specimen integrity.
  • Prepares specimens to be processed in-house or sent out by labeling specimens accurately, separating specimens for processing, processing paperwork, and entering data into the computer. 98% of specimens are labeled accurately. No more than 5 errors in processing specimens and paperwork.
  • Analyzes specimens to obtain information for diagnosis by performing necessary tests according to standardized procedures.
  • Maintains proper documentation of laboratory activities to ensure quality testing integrity by confirming test results, interpreting data based on knowledge of techniques and following guidelines for quality assurance. Documents lab activity properly 95%. Follows written quality assurance guidelines 95% of time. Interprets data correctly 97% of time.
  • Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the patient to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the “Age Specific Criteria”.
  • Performs proficiency testing as designated 99% of time.
  • Reviews quality control, proficiency testing, and maintenance logs on a regular basis to ensure all compliance guidelines are met by signing logs, filing reports, and gathering data. Reviews are completed monthly 95% of time. Compliance guidelines are followed 98% of time.
  • Performs proficiency tests to meet CLIA regulations by running unknown test samples on a quarterly basis. Performs proficiency testing as designated 99% of time.
  • Leads staff to ensure effective work flow by planning/directing employees' work, training, coaching and assisting with performance evaluations. Physician satisfaction rating 80% of the time. Staff performs competently 95% of the time. Staff who do not perform competently are reviewed under corrective action/performance improvement guidelines 100% of the time.
