Responsibilities

  • Assigns and adjusts work assignments to balance the workload among employees.
  • Monitors workflow and makes day-to-day adjustments according to established priorities.
  • Gives on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assists the Supervisor in personnel matters such as leave schedules and attendance certification.
  • Participates in job interviews and selection of applicants for vacant positions.
  • Estimates and reports on expected time of completion of work and maintains records of patient call backs and customer service issues.
  • Oversees ordering and managing supplies for phlebotomy and specimen processing sections.
  • Utilizes computer systems to acknowledge specimen receipt and accessions all specimens correctly.
  • Phlebotomizes patients using aseptic venipuncture techniques.
  • Explains collection procedures to patients for various specimen types.
  • Monitors and maintains outpatient phlebotomy areas, ensuring adequate materials are available.
  • Assists staff and patients in resolving questions related to specimens and test information.
