About The Position

The primary function of a Lead HIM Technician is quality control for accuracy of the scanned Medical Record. The Lead HIM Technician shall work as part of a team in the function of assuring that all scanned documents pertaining to the chart are legible, that they are exact replicas of the original, and patient identification is met with each record. Responsible for interacting with hospital staff, regarding medical records documentation is assembled with the appropriate document type, according to the forms inventory. HIM Lead Technician will also maintain the accuracy of the medical record according to the department policy and JC/ regulatory standards. Responsible and accountable for maintaining death and discharge logs. Conducts patient chart audits relating to documentation in the patient's medical record. Upon notification, and after research corrects demographic or identifies duplicate medical record/fin numbers in the Master Patient Index database and Electronic Health Record. Lead HIM Technician will also provide assistance with birth registry and be included to the weekend rotation for birth registry coverage.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years experience in Medical records or healthcare related field, preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Bilingual skills required.
  • Interpersonal skills required.
  • Knowledge of computers, copy machine, microfilm and reader printer preferred.
  • Commitment to compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and safe driving skills.
  • Flexibility to travel to other facilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in HIM or Healthcare related field or Certificate preferred.
