About The Position

Position Summary: Perform and report laboratory tests within established guidelines, and under direction of the Technical Director and the senior manager, oversee training, special projects, QC review, proficiency testing, direct observation of competency, resolution of instrument or specimen problems, and ensure adherence to technical procedures and regulations.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Natural Science/Allied Health or Medical Laboratory Science program with 2 years’ experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Natural Science/Allied Health or Medical Laboratory Science program.
  • Medical terminology and keyboarding skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with people.
  • Sound reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
  • Maintain visual acuity and hand‑finger dexterity for extended computer work; sit or stand at workstations for long periods.
  • Comprehend verbal and written instructions and sustain concentration without distraction.
  • Demonstrate full integrity and accuracy in testing and result reporting.
  • Remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Work with exposure to biohazard materials and hazardous chemicals.
  • Follow all company safety, ergonomic, health, and PPE policies; comply with PPE requirements in lab and biohazard areas.
  • Complete required training and health evaluations on time.
  • Anticipate and address safety hazards, act on unsafe situations, and promote safety awareness.

Nice To Haves

  • ASCP certification preferred.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform phlebotomy and assigned technical tasks.
  • Conduct and document maintenance and quality control for all testing equipment and reagents.
  • Provide guidance to department staff, resolve issues through completion, and communicate updates to managers and the next shift.
  • Coordinate training for new staff and for new instruments or procedures.
  • Oversee proficiency testing (CAP or other agencies), competency assessments, and provide additional training when needed.
  • Serve as liaison between the department, Senior Manager, and Technical Director.
  • Submit QC for peer statistics, review QC and maintenance records, and discuss concerns with Technical Directors and the Site Manager.
  • Assist with introducing and troubleshooting analyzers; act as key operator and attend manufacturer training when appropriate.
  • Perform specialized studies, reagent coordination, instrument calibration, and other duties assigned by leadership.
  • Address client questions and issues courteously and efficiently.
  • Support overall laboratory effectiveness, including reviewing pending logs and ensuring timely test completion.
  • Track inventory, order supplies, and maintain daily operational stock.
  • Issue emergency-release blood units.
  • Handle problems with sound judgment and manage shift workflow, escalating issues to leadership as needed.
  • Comply with all company, departmental, and regulatory policies, including safety and compliance protocols.
