Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree OR Associates Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a chemical, physical, or biological science.
  • Current knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and principles
  • ASCP or AMT certification. Certification within a specific area, i.e. M(ASCP), H(ASCP), C(ASCP) qualifies.
  • Three (3) years of clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Lab Tech within a clinical laboratory.
  • Blood Bank experience

Nice To Haves

  • Five years clinical laboratory experience

Responsibilities

  • Promotes professionalism and interacts with colleagues in a way that promotes a cooperative working environment.
  • Displays technical expertise necessary to ensure timely and accurate results of laboratory procedures.
  • Ensure specimens are obtained and processed in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
  • Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care provider.
  • Supports organizational priorities to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Attains required competency and demonstrates the ability to follow procedural directions and protocols.
  • Exhibits problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and evaluate critical laboratory results.
  • Participates in the training/mentoring of new employees, students or interns including lectures and bench techniques.
  • Able to prioritize and organize workload and assist other coworkers to maintain productivity.
  • Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned.
  • Engages in self-evaluation of practice and takes action to improve knowledge and skills.
  • Promotes consensus building and applies techniques of conflict resolution and conduct improvement.
  • Retains accountability for quality of care given to the patient.
  • Promotes service excellence and growth of the laboratory.
  • Performs laboratory testing that pertains to patient care and diagnosis.
  • Assists with hiring and training new staff members
  • Ensures department documentation is complaint with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensures the department is in working order as assigned.
  • Performs routine and special laboratory procedures, quality control, preventative maintenance, minor equipment repairs, inventory control, and statistical compilation.
  • Leads and participates in quality assurance, performance improvement, laboratory education, new employee training, proficiency testing and staff scheduling when assigned.
