About The Position

The Lead Medical Assistant will: Function in a Lead role for clinical staff and serves as a resource for overall operations and including scheduling, payroll, registration & patient satisfaction/employee performance issues, ordering/stocking of supplies and communication, and billing activities. Be responsible for oversight of the employee schedule ensuring all shifts are appropriately resourced and troubleshooting for unplanned employee absences. Works with the leaders for any resource issues that need further resolution. Assist with medical record requests from various sources such as physicians, patients, insurance companies and lawyers by contacting the SPPA Sr. Correspondence Representative. Take and record height, weight, blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, and head circumference when indicated with each patient visit including, injections and wound care/dressing. Assist with all treatments/procedures as requested by nurse and/or physician including colposcopies, biopsies, PAPs, etc. Assist physician by transmitting orders and answering questions to patients about their healthcare. Call pharmacies about appropriate medication, dosage and usage; educate patients by providing medication and instruction, as instructed by the physician. Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, perform phlebotomy, and give injections to patients. Maintains accurate logs for point of care testing, refrigerator, etc. as indicated in the SPPA Laboratory Policies and at the direction of the practice Supervisor. Identify patient by name, date of birth, chart and ensures patients is in designated exam room. Identifies any deviations in vital signs and notifies Physician/Nurse of any change in patient’s status. Streamline the patient flow by prioritizing patients on arrival according to their scheduled appointments. Directs patients to the appropriate area, and triages to physicians as needed. Ensure accurate collection and recording of all specific demographic, sociologic and financial information including name, birth date, address, telephone number, verification and copies of insurance cards, and clinical reasons for evaluation with accuracy. Proactively addresses all insurance issues and collects co-payments. Obtain legal signatures for consent for medical treatment in accordance with established policy as determined by daily quality checks and feedback from staff. Verifies financial responsibility, and obtains patient/guardian signature on payment release. Perform the End of Day reconciliation, which includes balancing the cash drawer each night according to policies and procedures and making deposits as directed. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a medical practice.
  • Fluent with medical terminology and data entry in healthcare.
  • Successful completion of Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant training.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
