This position will be responsible for providing Mechanical Engineering support to customer-funded programs and internal research efforts within our Space Superiority and Imaging Division. Strong engineering fundamentals and analytical background with the ability to understand and guide analyses and offer solutions related to mechanical, electro-mechanical, and opto-mechanical systems. Types of analysis include thermal, structural, and dynamic. This position will oversee and lead design, development and analysis tasks on complex hardware which may include glass optical assemblies, composite structures, high precision actuators and mechanisms and support equipment/tooling. Provide support and technical leadership over requirements definition, concept generation, material selection, trade studies, design sensitivity/optimization studies, preliminary and final design, design documentation, manufacturing, and assembly/integration and testing. Candidate must have strong proficiency in 3D modeling, design for manufacturing, mechanical analysis and ability to work independently or within a multi-disciplined team environment. Job duties may include leading small cross-functional teams of engineers and designers in accomplishing the above assignments. Responsibilities may include investigating solutions to product or process problems. Prior experience with payload and space vehicle integration and testing is preferred. Responsible for improving upon existing or establishing new processes and systems using significant conceptualization, reasoning and interpretation. Solutions are innovative and unique and draw upon best practices based on expertise. Develop or champions new concepts or technologies. May recommend and implement new products, processes, policies, standards or operating plans in support of job function strategy.
