About The Position

As the Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will drive the design and development of products, systems, and solutions while leading technical improvements to existing components. You will plan and execute engineering activities that impact departmental operations, coordinating cross-functional partners to meet objectives. Operating with autonomy within established functional practices, procedures, and standards, you will exercise sound engineering judgment to resolve issues, seeking guidance on highly complex or novel decisions. You will ensure outcomes meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 7 years of experience in engineering).
  • Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience.
  • This position requires U.S. citizenship status.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree or advanced training in the fields of mechanical, aerospace or related fields
  • Experience designing components for aerospace or similar industries e.g. temperature sensors, PMAs, or pumps, demonstrating creative engineering design to solve complex constraints
  • Proficiency with mechanical/thermal/CFD tools: ANSYS (Mechanical/Fluent/Icepak), NX or Creo, MATLAB/Simulink; familiarity with CAD/PDM and scripting (Python/MATLAB) for automation
  • Proven creativity in concept development, trade studies, rapid iteration, and design optimization (weight, size, manufacturability, cost)
  • Hands-on experience with product qualification/certification testing; interpreting results and closing design actions
  • Knowledge of DFM/DFA, GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and cost-reduction in regulated industries; collaboration with suppliers for manufacturability
  • Working knowledge of materials and processes for engine environments (high-temp alloys, coatings, seals) and fluid/thermal behavior in rotating equipment
  • Strong communication: clear design substantiation, review board presentations, and cross-functional integration with systems, manufacturing, and test

Responsibilities

  • Lead design of temperature sensors, permanent magnet alternators (PMAs), pumps, and related aerospace products, with a focus on creative engineering design to solve complex challenges.
  • Apply mechanical and fluid dynamics principles to create solutions that meet harsh engine-environment requirements; optimize for weight, size, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Perform mechanical, thermal, and flow analyses and produce clear substantiation for sensors, PMAs, and pumps.
  • Continuously build skills in mechanical, thermal, and fluid design and analysis through training and on-the-job learning.
  • Plan and support design assurance and qualification/certification testing.
  • Present analysis, trade studies, and design justification to internal and external review boards.
  • Follow sound engineering principles and company standards across mechanical and electrical product scopes.
  • Develop deep technical expertise; leverage experience to execute strategy and policy in day-to-day work, while adhering to business and regulatory standards.
  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work.
  • In-depth understanding of how work integrates with other teams and contributes to the business.
  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance.
  • Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks.
  • Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems.
  • May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
