About The Position

The Mechanical Lead will support the Mechanical Engineering Group Supervisor in leading other Mechanical Engineers who will prepare design and procurement documents for the Sentinel Project. This position has technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, and coordinating these assignments as they pertain to HVAC systems as well as unique requirement driven equipment. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills and proven problem-solving capabilities. Additionally, the ideal candidate must have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), can be the “face” of Bechtel, promoting our leadership, quality, and safety values, to external partners including vendors, construction companies, and other subcontractors.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related) with a minimum of 8 years of relevant professional work experience.
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug and background check, which includes verification of employment and education.
  • Experience in Piping/Ventilation and Instrument Diagram (P&ID/V&ID) development, HVAC system design, equipment, pipe, and duct sizing calculations, and equipment specification and design development for waste processing, nuclear, refinery, DoD projects, or chemical process facilities.
  • Experience with International Mechanical Code, ASHRAE, and/or SMACNA codes typically used in HVAC systems.
  • Experience working on DOD government projects and with the Unified Facilities Criteria (UFCs).
  • Experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME NQA-1, or AS9100D.
  • U.S. Professional Engineering License in Mechanical Engineering (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
  • Possess active security clearance or the ability to obtain a security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and technical guidance to discipline work group and assist the management of discipline work process execution and ensure technical adequacy in accordance with company, contract, and industry codes and standards.
  • Assist in the building of an inclusive team environment where all are able and expected to contribute to the maximum of their capabilities.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to team members.
  • Establish or assist in establishing and maintaining work plans to ensure schedules are met and stakeholder requirements are satisfied.
  • Create and track actions, estimate hours, and update schedules.
  • Devise innovative approaches to solving problems from a variety of detailed technical options and assess cost implications.
  • Contribute directly to the cost-effective design of plumbing and fire protection systems as well as unique requirement driven equipment.
  • Identify major technical uncertainties and present solution options for management decisions.
  • Serve as an advisor for the analysis and solution of engineering problems and interpret drawings, verbal instructions, and applicable codes relevant to project requirements and the ability to articulate explanations.
  • Interface and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and the client in developing the design.
  • Perform other related work as assigned by Mechanical Supervisor or Deputy Supervisors.
